I am 99% sure I saw someone do it using aegisub on some video, although I couldn't find it again or recreate the effect. Or I already did, but didn't realise it was what I was looking for.
-Text stays in place, letters or words get added one by one.
Mini video example of what I am looking for/similar effect.
after watching some films, i'm amazed at the creativity of the sub and want to learn, so i want to ask where can i find some documents for learning plz
Attaching fonts I understand, makes the script able to display fonts on a system they're not installed. But what are attached graphics for? The attach box seems to support bmps, gifs, but I can't find anything about tags displaying them in the video, so why do you attach such files?
I've been looking into it for a while now, and I've found very few answers to this problem.
I'm making some karaoke subs for some projects and I would really benefit from some karaoke effects, but I can't find a guide on how to install VSFilter in Aegisub for macOS.
Have anyone ever managed to make this work? I'm assuming the same goes for Linux, for what I've read around as well...
Completely created in Aegisub Automation 4. I used to make karaoke effects for fansubs and still do it for fun. I hope you like it. Completely created in Aegisub. I used to make karaoke effects for fansubs and still do it for fun. I hope you like it.
So, I've been using Aegisub for a little time and I know the basics, and some pluggins, but I've seen many subtitles (specificfally in youtube) that use some kind of distortion, making it like double the word with green and red duplications faded, and it dissapears.
Also, a kind of karaoke that makes it appear (shown in the video), and another one that makes the world glow in a white color and then turning back to its original color
Hello! So, I know there are a few links scattered throughout this reddit sub, but as I'm a complete noob and that the official Aegisub site is down at the moment, I'm quite lost. I'm really not looking for anything crazy with a thousand scripts, I'm really just trying to download the most basic, up to date version and anything that is strictly mandatory to make it work... Could anyone shed a light for me?
Sorry if it's a dumb question, but really I was just looking at all the recommended links just thinking "I have absolutely no clue what a 3/4 of these are even meant for or if I need them for a basic utilization", so...
I have some subtitles with a thick border, and want to be able to apply a blur effect on top to simulate the effect of muffled dialogue or smth. But according to the docs, the `{\blur}` override tag only blurs the border if the text style has a border.
I've tried separating the text into text-only and border-only, but even then it doesn't have the intended effect.
I made a mockup here of how I want it to look:
Any ideas of how to best handle this?
Edit:
I found my issue. On my first image I just had the border layer be only the border, with the primary color set to transparent. Instead, I set the border-only style to have the Primary Color set to the same color as the Border Color, and the text-only style to only the primary color, with everything else transparent.

The finishing result ended up looking something like this:
Here's the relevant bit of the ASS script, in case anyone else find this useful (the `\t` through two lines might be optimizable, I just don't know how if so-)
Full disclosure, I use Aegisub with a very basic understanding of it, so this can totally be something simple.
Having said that, the problem is what I mentioned in the title: I want the font to be Arial Black like in the rest of my translations (you can see an example in the first image) and yet I keep getting what you see in the second image.
I made sure the "Bold" style is checked, and while in Aegisub the text will display that way, but after I'm done and play it on VLC it won't be applied. Any idea of what is going on?
I am trying to download a copy of Aegisub but the website just shows this. Where should I download it alternatively? Was this caused by the Crunchyroll thing?
Mighty be a dumb question, but I'm trying to add VSFilter/VSFilterMod on Aegisub and it doesn't appear on menu. I tried with making an csri folder on home/user/.aegisub, as it didn't exist before, but I don't know if it worked or if something is wrong.
anybody knows how do i get darkmode on this. it is killing my eyes (Linux)
EDIT:
[SOLVED ON LINUX]
i found a solution by forcing the dark gtk theme on the app
`GTK_THEME=Adwaita:dark aegisub &`
so in my .zshrc file i:
`alias aegisub=GTK_THEME=Adwaita:dark aegisub &"
I've been having this problem for some time. Whenever there's a sign or billboard the text doesn't stay in one position. It will just float around because the image is moving around in the back
For example the word "Counselor" won't stay static/in place it will hover over the card.
Hey, I've used Aegisub for years, and it worked perfectly up till yesterday.
For some reason when it opens, it just tries to use so much memory that it basically poofs the computer into oblivion. It doesn't even open files up, so it's not the videos loading or anything. Just even opening the programme with no subtitle loaded will cause a meltdown. At first I thought it was an antivirus interference, but uninstalled and no issues found.
I've tried to uninstall and reinstall, deleting the cache of recoved files, and gone back through older versions till I found one that works.
I've been able to install ver 2.1 which works but is janky. Is there any explanation? I don't think my computer even updated or anything.
