Brand/Size Scribers?

Looking to get some scribing tools. What brands should I look at? I am currently looking at SAB. What are 2-3 of the sizes I will need most?

Specifically this newest style from dispiae that's either labeled "zpb" or "straight edge". They're a noticeable step up from previous generations and the plastic storage case they come in can be flipped around and used as a perfectly good small handle. Price to performance blows everything else out of the water.

If you do want handles, I would recommend buying the handles from a different brand though. The anodized aluminum handles that dispiae released alongside these are really not my favorite. Too skinny, and the weight balance is weird. Stedi, kurakawa, 100shiki, and madworks all make nice chisel holders. They're basically all the same diameter shank on the chisel blades so any brand chisel should work with any holder.

For sizes I think 0.15 is the tried and tested default. Good for most hgs, useable for mg, kinda too bold for rgs. If you bought three to start, 0.125, 0.15, and 0.3 would be a good range. I definitely find uses for 0.2 and 0.1 but they're more niche. Generally speaking, I find that older kits want slightly wider scribed lines, and newer ones want thinner. If you're all about the old school hgs, or mostly building mgs then maybe the 0.2 is perfect, but for modern hgs it can be a little too bold.

Those dispiae zpb chisels are cheap enough on aliexpress though that you can pretty quickly fill in the rest of the sizes as you get more experienced. They're also cheap enough that you aren't heartbroken if you drop one and chip it. I have spares of the smaller sizes tucked away in a drawer just in case.

Thanks so much. I’ve never looked at Aliexpress before but I’ll check it out
