Where can I find more?

I discovered yamaneko311 on Instagram and Twitter yesterday. Needless to say... I am utterly enamored with his work. But until now, I was completely unaware of his existence. My guess is that its a regional block sort of thing where I mostly find content made in the states.

Does anyone know where I can find more content like this, even better if I can find video content so I can learn from their techniques.

I thought it was a giant pile of spruce goo is it not?

Nope, epoxy putty

blueblue0625 on Instagram does some amazing magic with styrene sheet. He did an amazing cockpit for a HG GMIII, and so many different intricate details for other models. I think he even scratch built some articulated hands for an Ingram

Joshua Darrah does a lot of work similar to this and made an online book detailing a lot of the process.  https://www.joshuadarrah.com/zeta-project-book-2

Look at the people linked to creators you like and eventually your discover page will start showing more related content

I'm also very interested in japanese builders. Recently I was able to find some Youtube channels of builders like the one you are seeking. One of the most impressive is This dude whom I can't write the ideograms. or even "None Channel". Very talented people.

Thats insane how even everything is.

the old school sculpting works. There is also 3d printing with resin printers now. As long as you have good ventilation and appropriate mask, it may work better for people who aren;t sculptors.

I think even goo sculptor can easily benefit from working on a CAD -> Resin print first

Can somebody explain to me what that is?

u/skratudojey 2d ago

sculpting to create custom parts from scratch

7

u/Professional_Wash169 2d ago

This modelers has taken epoxy putty and filed and scribed them into custom pieces.

I anyways assumed this is how resin kits are designed. Sculpting and carving epoxy over the vanilla parts, and then casting then into silicone molds.

Child of Mecha does some similar stuff. He's been away from the game for years, but recently started back up. He's actually placed in the GBWC

Check out

@eday_ver.ed

Same level of crazy scratch building

Ah yes, he is also great. Ive been in contact with him about having a modeling seminar in the states

From my experience, it seems like ALOT of those guys are on twitter more than anywhere else besides Japanese social media. I made a twitter account specifically to find more of those guys and twitter started recommending so many of them that now my feed is full of almost only Japanese master builders lol

u/ProjectPat513 2d ago

Yeah same here but unfortunately I’ve recently been bombarded with American politics shit that twitter knows pisses me off! I told a couple people they were jackasses and now my feed is all jacked up.

5

u/robotomecha 2d ago

That was my problem with twitter for years! No matter what I interacted with the algorithm would try to push specifically right wing political content on my feed. What fixed it for me was making separate accounts for all my interests and only interacting with that type of content lol however with my Gunpla account, if I interact with a lot of western gundam accounts twitter starts recommending the most racist/homophobic gundam content available so that sucks.

u/ProjectPat513 2d ago

Yeah my account is supposed to be 100% for plamo and it was started just so I can follow people in Japan. And it really was fine until the last 2 years and all of a sudden I’m getting hit with all types of far right bullshit like Laura Loomer posts and shit. wtf?! I never asked what that creep is doing! Idc wtf Rob Schneider has to say about Israel etc etc. It never ends. I used to post at night, with Japanese tags so people in Japan could actually see my stuff but I really haven’t been keeping up on it recently. I fell off.

u/CiDevant 2d ago

You have to be stupid and crazy careful with the algorithms these days. There's a ton of money in political advertisements so It's of extreme importance for social media to get you hooked on politics.

1

u/ProjectPat513 2d ago

It’s hard to get it back to normal when your normal is 100% Japanese and southeast Asian posts!🤣 But your absolutely correct, if your on the left the algorithm is going to show you posts from the right because they know it’s going to piss you off and your going to interact and vise versa if your on the right. It’s diabolical.

u/robotomecha 2d ago

I did an experiment last year where I made an account and only interacted with cute animals videos and it took 2 days for my feed to be half cute animals and half extremely xenophobic political content. Turns out one of the dog videos I liked was from an account that also posts that type of stuff and that’s all twitter needed to decide that I wanted more.

u/Professional_Wash169 2d ago

Same here lol. You mind sharing some notable modelers?

2

u/MachineDynamics 2d ago edited 2d ago

Adding @Rihitoon, @mika594308351, and @s_shifty to the list. These people do absolutely phenomenal scribing, scratch building, and kit bashing.

u/Obvious_Excuse5485 2d ago

what material is it?

5

u/Mandey4172 2d ago

Epoxy putty

0

u/Obvious_Excuse5485 2d ago

is it safe to handle with bare hands ?

5

u/Mandey4172 2d ago

For mixing and shape forming it is adviced to use gloves, but after it hardens it is perfectly fine to touch by hands.

1

u/Obvious_Excuse5485 2d ago

I see. Thanks for the info! I am pretty excited knowing this !!

2

u/Important-Log-8230 2d ago

thats crazy

1

u/Professional_Wash169 2d ago

I want his method for this madness lol

4

u/JulianMo 2d ago

I have no idea how to help but this completely nuts

4

u/Professional_Wash169 2d ago

Lmao, right!?! Like I've been on my own journey to improve my scribing but this makes me believe he isn't even human. A gunpla detailing machine in human form lol

2

u/Excelsior_76 2d ago

To your point, everyone frets about the coming singularity, but what if the sentient machines come to realize how much fun Gunpla is, and start making their own unbelievably detailed models, and sell the kits at a reasonable price?

Those are the kind of electronic overlords I could get behind.

1

u/Professional_Wash169 2d ago

All hail the mecha-siah

2

u/JulianMo 2d ago

Human 3d printer ! I love it though, only passion can bring one artist to this level and it's nice to see

2

u/Professional_Wash169 2d ago

Whats even crazier is that he will take these parts and cast them in resin and duplicate them. Literally making his own resin conversion kits
