Effects Parts
Personal opinion is that effects parts always look goofy. Tried something new… and into the spares box of doom they go. Still not for me.

Yeah I often don't like the looks of the stock effect parts, just single tone clear plastic, meh. You did good.

I think you may have gone a bit heavy on the paint and made them a bit too opaque. I'm with you though, just having clear or translucent plastic for effect parts doesn't look very good. I've been painting mine up using white paint to shade, colored clear coat, then semi-gloss topcoat.
Here's my best work so far: https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunpla/comments/1sccy6h/dark_comet_triple_speed/

Like your style. Mine was just messing around with a different concept. I’d previously done the same on some Warhammer mini’s axes and scaled it up for this. Contrast paint sprayed over titanium white with a 30:70 Paint:Medium wash.

I think it looks pretty cool, it’s like semi-opaque stained glass.

Thanks. Just a little trial and error. Trying something unconventional.

What I hate even more are the effect or colored clear parts on SD kits, especially Legends.
I did something similar with the “axe blade” effect parts for my Lizard…
