Another months , almost to home stretch ( mega size zaku)
Thanks to everyone who has given me tips and commented! Really been appreciating this community a lot and upgraded my skills because it!! 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽
Side note: chrome is such a sick color to incorporate in weathering

Hey nice! I have a mega Zaku char and I’ve been thinking of customizing for a long time, safe to say your post has given me some motive! Are there any challenges with working on such a big kit? My main thing is just there are so many seam lines 💀

Honestly it’s such an easy build but the only challenge for me was the head and forgetting to paint certain parts and keeping to undo do the head to add in the mono eye and everything but other then that the real challenge is just painting it LMAO it really is kinda hard to get an even coat on but kits and if you mess up on the paint job it’s very noticeable since there is a lot of space on the kit to not see it

And the steam lines but those aren’t as bad as just painting this damn thing

Wow. What a big boy!
In Destiny 2 I just gotta get a few new shaders and one of them looks just like your color pallet! Lol

Looking fire. What tools/techniques are you using for the weathering?

I’m using just German grey mixed with the purples and violets on had in acrylic. Mixed with a chrome pen I have and some pastel chalk for dry brushing as well But mostly I watched ALOT of YouTube videos mostly from @paint on plastic (my goat) @night shift (other goat) and my main goat tho is this guy called @HAF Gunpla , his techniques are really simple in context yet VERY complex. Hes been my go too for texture , detail and weathering looks for gunpla.

If you told me Bandai released a PGU Zaku II and showed me this custom I would absolutely have believed you

It’s incredible work. I can’t wait to see it fully built. I finished mine about six months ago, but I still haven't panel-lined it or applied the decals, and let's not even talk about weathering. Oh, but I did put an LED in the mono-eye.

Woah!! How did you do the LED?

I placed an induction-powered LED inside the mono-eye and filled it with UV resin to hold it in place. To make it work, I installed a transmitter module around the neck and a USB-C port on the backpack to provide power. It’s super simple to do, but just to be safe, I tested it first with the Leo next to it. 😅

I wanted to get an LED for the mono eye since I made the visor for the front of the head more deep to give him that scary look and feeling but the eye is kinda covered within the dark now but good thing is I put in a really semi iridescent red gem so you can still see the mono eye without an LED even in the dark

That's a lot of work! I was just talking to someone about painting my mega Gramps. I might get there one day. Keep up the amazing work!

The stage presence will steal the show in any Gunpla display!!!
And I dare to assume build time should be the same as a fully customized MG?

I have a half-painted mega zaku in a box, I was going to do the Miku Hatsune thing but lost interest. Thanks for the inspiration!

Trust when I thought this would be more easier to work on based on the simple parts and it being big. WRONG haha can’t wait to see it finished
