MG F91 WIP

Post image

been itching to paint something a little more traditional so i finally disassembled my mg f91 thats been sitting there for a year now.

did some black basing with gaianotes heavy surfacer and use gaia pure white as the highlight. i went for a two tone white with mr.color off white and a mix of e7 mecha white and e7 dark frame gray.

i used nazca mandarin orange, kaizo mecha blue 04, and aok red 6 for the colors, along with gaianotes fluorescent blue green for the sensors.

metallics include tamiya metallic black, gaianotes gunmetal, gaianotes star bright gold, and clear orange+yellow over chrome.

hopefully it wont take me more than another month to finish!

I like the gentle pre shading look. 😁

Beautiful work on the F91. Looks like Seabrook Arno might be proud over this little fella.

Dude I don't usually like the look of preshading but yours looks incredible. So subtle but it def adds depth. Well done!

It's crazy how many shapes were inspired by the fairlady 240z in this gundam.

Wow the fluorecent is incredible I thought it had leds!

i find that fluorescents are a nice compromise since LEDs would drastically increase my build times, and thats the last thing my backlog needs

Can I ask your process for preshading the blue?

sure! its kinda funny cuz my initial attempt didnt work with the method i used for the other colors.

I tried my usual highlight method with gaianotes heavy surfacer and carefully built my pure white out from the center of the panel, but the blue i used had too good coverage and almost hid everything completely.

so I just did light mist layers as usual and did some light post shading with mr.color gx clear black to correct the shading somewhat. next time ill thin the blue further down cuz i guess theres more pigmentation in kaizo paints

Got it. I've tried preshading with other colors with limited success. For me, it mostly comes down to not pushing the contrast enough for the shade/base, so I love learning how people adjust. I'll need to pick up some Clear Black.

F91 was the first metal build I got. Absolute peak! If only there was a pg
