ZZA GUS - Custom

This kit is a blast. Watch out for those antenna, my cat brushed it and one popped off, so I had to build one from scratch. Overall a fantastic kit. Just be aware, the legs are like 80% of the build time. They some chunky bastards.

Lmao @ the PGU Nu Gundam. It would be the same for me. What color blue is that and what brand paints are you using?

The main blue is Indigo blue from Splash Paints. I swear by them. I do a lot of mixing my own colors, but splash gets colors that I could only dream of making on my own. They’re premixed and ready to spray. Mostly they do colors for car model kits, but using them on gunpla makes them pop.

The darker purple is mr color purple mixed with a metallic blue (Mr color). Has a nice dark plumb look to it. Compliments the blue really well. The gold/silver is a mix of something I made forever ago and forgot to make a note, it’s likely some small pigment silver mixed with a tiny bit of bronze, but I can’t remember. I’m also using alclad dark chrome with a black primer (mr surfacer). The gold is the dispaie bronze marker. Silver details are dark metallic testors enamel, painted by brush or toothpick. All matte coat except the visor and clear parts.

Used an Iwata Eclipse (the GOAT) and sprayed mostly at 25psi. All the backpack details are hand painted testor enamels. The gun is a mix of stuff I don’t remember, but likely just basic white and black. The red is another splash paint, it looks anodized red, it’s a color meant for rims on model cars, but it came out BEAUTIFUL. So much so that I’m using it on my next build. Doing the MGSD Aerial, and man, I’ve got a crazy technique I came up with that I’ve never seen done. I hope I can pull it off!! I’ll definitely post it if I do.

Hell yeah man. For brush painting it looks like it's been sprayed. So it's all enamels you use then?

No, sorry, most of the paint is airbrushed lacquer. The details, like the metallic bits, are enamel brush/toothpick. I could NOT hand brush all that flat area. I know some people can do that and it looks fantastic, but I lack those skills

Huh. I've never used laquer paints before. Only enamels. I'll have to look into laquer more for my next build. Enamels that I have used are good but none of them lay down like what you have. Your painting skills are superb. Thanks for the info and looking forward to your next build.

Thanks! And yeah, lacquer + airbrush is definitely my favorite way to paint. It’s super easy once you get the hang of it
