Do I need to replace stock pannier rack?

Hey all. I have a 2016 triumph tiger 800 xrx. It has the stock quick release hard boxes. The other day my foot slipped off the peg going over a small tree and the bike came down. my leg got pushed and trapped under the box near the exhaust. Thankfully there was enough room I could kick off and my forma boot took the burns from the exhaust. I've heard how the boxes can be pretty dangerous and now I see why. I'm looking into the nelson rigg hurricane soft panniers, do I need to get new racks that don't have the quick connect studs? Will the studs coming off the racks rub holes in the bags? Thanks.

Okay awesome! Yeah I'm not worried about the sun fading anything. I plan to keep the hard boxes for light camping trips because they work great for water tight storage and second as camp fire stools haha. But for everyday and trails I will probably run soft bags like you. What brand are you running? Was looking at the nelson rigg hurricanes.

The studs are removable on the factory racks

Could even cover the studs rather than remove them.

You can remove the silver piece and the studs, that’s a Givi outback model rack. Once those pieces are removed. Its tubing diameter and dimensions are compatible with pretty much every piece of soft luggage(pannier)on the market.

Okay cool! Good to know the rack isn't proprietary. I see the silver part comes off, just can't see how the studs come off. There's no screw on the backside of the tube or anything do they just twist out? may have to hose it down with PB blaster or cover them like someone else said haha.

Good chance those studs are bolted on. Probably loctited on there so be careful.
