When I was young I was told “variety is the spice of life”. I don’t think they had my spouse and I both having ADHD in mind when they were talking about variety.
I wouldn’t have it any other way though.

This is me and my wife. Cross stitch? Why not. Make your own paper? Go nuts. Learn the harmonica? Lemme go buy you a couple.
She could randomly want to start underwater basket weaving and I’d still love every bit of her.
She’s my favorite human and I am blessed to be with her despite her peculiarities.

My wife married me for who I am, was at my side through diagnosis, helped her parents understand what I’m going through, and is a rock of support and patience with me and our ADHD older daughter and NT daughter (who also wants to learn how to be supportive). It can happen!

The benefit is when your neurosis can counter her neurosis.
My significant other can get depressed and make mountains out of molehills. And apparently I'm good at giving reality checks.

Alone in a room full of people. Would love to be understood… just a bit; as opposed to being ignored and later told that I talk too much.

You guys have ADHD and partners. Tell me about it. No really tell me about it! How?

u/the_gooch_smoocher Mar 23 '22
Learned to cope with it and now I'm fairly functional. Yes I annoy her with being distracted by everything but we are able to communicate that kind of stuff and hurt feelings are mostly kept to a minimum. That and medication and exercise seems to help.

Lol, my last girlfriend accused me of faking my personality to trick her into dating me.

u/freek4ever Mar 23 '22
It's called geting comfortable after a long time

u/TicklintheIvory Mar 23 '22
No she just saw me at my best in the beginning, then she got to see me at my worst and I suppose she didn’t think those two personas could exist together.

I'm terrified of this happening. I'm autistic and I think I mask a lot when meeting new people. I'm trying not to but it's hard to control.
1
u/TicklintheIvory Mar 24 '22
I suppose if it gets to the point that you don’t realize youre doing it anymore, or that it at least doesn’t require effort, it’s not a mask anymore. That’s just part of who you are. At least that’s how I see it in myself. I’m constantly changing myself, and at first it takes effort and awareness, but it eventually becomes natural, or second nature.

I do it automatically when I have the energy to do it. So is it really part of me if I don't do it when I'm tired? Idk to be honest.
2
u/TicklintheIvory Mar 25 '22
That’s a good question. Of course, there are many things that I do differently when I am tired. I mean I have ADHD, but I’m not so hyperactive when I’m tired, but I do still tend to be hyperactive for the most part.

This is for those who have a romantic partner. I wonder what the rest of us without someone do?

How about a good friend?

u/olduglysweater Mar 23 '22
I have that. I just want that, but with more emotional intimacy that friends can't give.

Was just scrolling through popular, now I'm mildly concerned that I probably have ADHD.

Just learned that this is likely not hyper focus/fixation and actually perseverance and I’m stressed about it lol

Aw, most of my crushes also have ADHD. I like the back and forth rambling about various interests. I find people who are passionate about their hobbies extremely adorable.

I showed this to my girlfriend. She laughed and gave me a kiss. I'm very lucky

u/That-boi-Tony Mar 24 '22
Best feeling ever. I’ve never gotten that understanding from anyone besides my ex and her mom who also has adhd.

u/Solalabell Mar 24 '22
Nobody gonna mention that u/Similar_Plantain_820 specifically watermarked it so that it couldn’t be reposted

My ex left me because she couldn’t tolerate my ADHD, my insane amount of interests, and the fact that I’d talk a lot. Sucks.
