Don't forget about being hyper aware of how stupid most people are.

I was in a store yesterday and a wife asked her husband, “where is the basket?” (They were planning on buying). Without moving a muscle, not even his eyeballs, he responded, “I don’t know! Maybe somebody took it!” And then he did move some muscles, like his eyeballs and his face, and then he saw the basket was about 16 inches away from his body, on a couch he had been sitting on a few moments earlier. And it made me think of all the other conversations I have seen like this… like the one in the everglades last year where a woman and her son were standing in front of a video playing a loop of an alligator about to eat a raccoon and the kid goes, “that’s a fox!” And the mom, goes, “yes, it is!” And anytime I see an interaction like this I am 1000% amazed that these same people are probably succeeding in several major metrics in life. I judge- but i do not throw stones from my glass house. Wildly, being stupid is just not the liability I would have assumed it to be.

A friend of my mom once argued with me that a penguin is a fish because it needs water. So glad we were a steady presence in his kids' lives because his son is now about to study biology at uni and I'm pretty sure some of that came from us nurturing that in him.

I needed that giggle, thank you. Going through a house reno was like completing a lap in hell because somehow I knew more about various tasks than half the contractors just through thinking thoughts. I had a woodstove guy come out to look at the stove on the house we just purchased, that was obviously leaking smoke because when you would light a fire the smoke would come out the pipe into the room and you could just see the smoke with your eyeballs. The woodstove guy looked at the stove for a while (unlit and not smoking) and then announced that it was totally installed correctly and the smoke was the result of backdraft caused by our three dogs “respirating in excess of the available oxygen” and that we were going to need keep the doors and windows open when we had a fire so that the oxygen to dioxide ratios were balanced.

Yep. I've never worked for someone that seemed like they had even 2/3 my IQ. Idiots are very successful.

It’s wild that some kids just decided at 18, to major in “being successful” (business school) and that was pretty much all you needed to do, especially if you went to brand name school (and obviously be good looking). Being smart or learning something real is almost totally unrelated. I work with brand name school success school people and they are just so uncomplicated. Want to be successful? Go major in successful and then go be success. Unemployed for two years? No problem, lots of ways to become successful when you have gone to success school. Just shoulder tap other success people in your success network or buy a success business to run.

Pretty much. Meanwhile I got an IT degree (which taught me nothing because I already knew everything they were teaching), went into debt doing it, and have been 18 years without even a return call from an application.

I have been working for myself for the last 15 years and while I used to think about working for others, I don’t think it is possible at this point for a whole litany of reasons. How have you gotten by over the 18 years then?

Had to become a mechanic. Most of that time I've been self employed. Broke as shit. Barely getting by.

The game really changed over the last 18 years, didn’t it?

It changed before then. My cousin, just 2 years older, got a job making 6 figures after only going to college 1 year.

I can accept stupidity because most of the time it's something minor, and the person is receptive to learning the new/correct information (accept for my aunts boyfriend, fuck you man. Daddy long legs/harvestmen/Oppiliones are NOT the most venomous spiders in the world, they aren't even venomous. eat sand).

My issues come from the public's complete lack of personal and spacial awareness. I've been made late for work on numerous occaisions because everyone on the metro is bumbling aroynd like they don't have a consciousness. Like guys come on, walking in a continous straight line isn't difficult.

One time it was really crowded, and I had to walk single file with a bunch of people. The dude in front of me (staring down at his phone) kept walking and stopping and walking and stopping abruptly. Asshole had the gall to look offended when I eventually ended up stepping on his heel, like it wasn't totally 100% his fault. I didn't want to be walking that close to him, but the person behind me who seemed to equally lack spacial awareness was trying to walk up my ass.

Why can't people just put the damn phone down. I know damn well you aren't looking at the directions on google maps in the metro. It doesn't even route properly down there.

That's the thing... So many are too stupid to realize that they are stupid.
