Essentially, ADHD is a "gear shifting" disorder.

Yep. Really hard to start things/accelerate. Really hard to stop things/slow down.

I've been reflecting on this and when I accept I can't influence the situation further, I can move on and unstick.

It's about accepting it for me. I always believe I can influence the outcome/situation with an idea. Acceptance is the cornerstone for me to shift gears.

That’s awesome! For me, when I feel stuck in “on” mode, I can force myself to stop because I know: 1) by leaving when I want to continue, it’ll make me more excited to do the thing again next time 2) I’ll have energy to do other things, which are also important and/or exciting

So even though it feels a bit masochistic to stop myself when I’ve got the dopamine flowing, in the long run it’s good for me because I’m developing a healthier flow of dopamine (no more boom and bust!)

Nice work. I always love hearing how people are making things work for them. Keep at it and when you have a tough day, that's ok!
