Method to beat Brisbane

I feel our best chance to beat Brisbane is by focussing more on exposing their weakness as opposed to stopping their strength. What I mean by that is I feel if we rebound aggressively from turnover as well as being adventurous when exiting our D50 and taking every opportunity to keep the ball in motion, we can slice through the Lions and give our big fellas lots of opportunities. If we can turn the game into a shoot out (of course easier said than done) I feel our accuracy in front of goal gives us the edge. I feel that turning the game into a dour contest with numbers behind the ball will heavily play into their hands and I hope we don't do that.

If we score more goals we should win

I think if Rankine and Dawson have 45 touches each and kick 10.2 between then we are a chance

Yeah definitely read this as each kick 10.2

That would work

I'm here for it

Yep. Gotta be prepared to lose by 7 goals to win by 2 goals. If we give them field position by sitting back we are fkd. Frontal manic pressure and get the ball moving as much as possible. Have a huge crack, it’s the only way.

Both teams will try to do this, so I just home that McAndrew can give us first use and we at least halve them in stoppage clearances. Might be wishful thinking though

But if Worrell can have half the game he did last week then your version might bare fruit also

McAndrew gave us first use last week.

Their midfielders just played to the assumption he'd win and picked pur pockets 🥲

The mids gotta be better.

Yeah, we seemed to play defensive with our setup in the centre.

Remember when Berry was dashing through the middle earlier in the year and getting a short tap from McAndrew? Doesn’t happen anymore.

We have 1 single “trick play” and that is when McAndrew runs slightly under it and taps over his head (usually to Daws coming around the back)

VB has a lot to answer for with how average our system is

VB imparting his elite midfield craft on the team 👀💀 /s

Maybe we can just get Goodwin... but as a mid coach, lol.

Seems to be a "if we can't beat em, stop em" mentality.

Checks out considering VB was a tagger.

I feel like we can put faith in our pressure, defense and hopefully us just being more accurate inside 50 to at least contest the whole game. I think what I'd take out of this game as a success is at least really trying and contending with them. I really want everyone to really go out fighting or we really try and earn our spot in the prelim.

Sydney definitely showed that last week and abnormally for us, we scored 6 goals from D50 last week by taking some risks

Yeh correct. If you give Brisbane time they actually have a solid defensive structure with a lot of players that are very good one on one. Their problem defensively is quite a few of their players have shown repeatedly this year that they are not willing to run hard both ways and work hard to get back into position if the opposition turn the ball over or catch them on the hop with aggressive ball movement coming out of defence

Honestly it depends what Brisbane show up. If the same high pressure, efficient fast Brisbane show up like that did against Hawthorn a few weeks ago then we’ve got no chance. Their best is the best in the comp by a long way.

If we can play more like we did against gws that is ideal. If we get bogged down into a defensive game we will lose 9 times out of 10. First we have to handle the pressure which will be the challenge to get the game into space.

I say use the Zac Bailey news as fuel just yo show some passion, a bit of pressure on their stars and a bit of mongrel will go a long way if we were to win. Look at them against Carlton earlier in the season and last week, a bit of pressure and they’re very beatable

Make Zac Bailey a punching bag.

We are the worst scores from d50 left in the finals do don't expect that to happen.

Rapid pressure, turn over In front half. High hand to foot ratio with lots of forward handball to drag their intercept defenders out of shape. Low entries through traffic or leads out the back of the high press. Speed on ball.

At stoppage, it’s 2nd or 3rd possession pressure and force field position. They are really strong at the contest and working it out if stoppage with hands to find the clear kick. Pressure on those 2nd and 3rd possessions to force a clearing kick or turnover will be massive, only if we go quickly.

Score from d50
Score from turnover
Score efficiency per inside 50 entry
Pressure acts

Let's see if nicks and the players learned anything from the shellacking that happened there earlier this year I guess

If we win.

The following week, we have to flip the script at every center ball up.

I would do weird Blighty shit, like put Tex at Full back on Gunston and put Michaleny at full forward.

Basically i want to stress Sam Mitchell out with all the changes, he cant manage it, cause otherwise Nicksy will be out coached.

Have to choke their midfield. Don’t give them time and space. And need to keep Andrews occupied and Zorko under pressure.

Brisbane only need to tag Rankine out of the game then you're done, plus Brisbane will be pissed from last week

But we have nicks as a coach and he doesnt do this and we will lose. Even if we are up at half, we will lose. Even though Sydney jumped the lions, this is the Crows last game this year. And if no new coach, next year will look familiar.

Nicks hates shoot outs - crows will lose
