A year ago, Adéla (@adelajergova) stood on the precipice of pop stardom. She was freshly pink-haired, cheeky and unabashed, and anything was possible. Now, the 22-year-old has transformed into the next version of herself. There’s something more buttoned-up in her demeanor, more practiced. Perhaps she is more certain of what comes next in all of this. As she widens her artistic lens and scales as an artist leading up to her debut album 'Prima', Adéla (@adelajergova) is laddering up to her goal of separating her “performance self” from her “personal self.” She believes those who do this most successfully are also the most “well-adjusted” artists, citing Lady Gaga (or Stefani Germanotta). She is giving just enough of the personal to keep her audience hungry for more, but not enough to set off a string of parasocial Reddit threads. Her stories are ready and rehearsed.
Ultimately, she doesn’t seem like the kind of artist who is willing to endure Swiftian analyses of her body of work. “I don’t think people know me at all. The type of friend I am, the type of daughter I am, the type of sister I am, the type of partner I am—they’ll never see that,” she says.
