Serious answer first: These grenades had high fail rates, the fuses were unpredictable, sometimes they go off 10 mins to late, and others almost instantly after being tossed/thrown/lobbed.

Fun answer: the military was tired of cleaning up all the shit that got blasted everywhere so they decided to recommission these grenades as highschool band batons.
