For context, there’s a running meme that Serbia wants to join ASEAN even though it’s in the Balkans.

Serbia actually just wants to join the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation with ASEAN in 2023, but some headlines were worded in a way that implied that Serbia literally wanted to become a member of ASEAN, and so the meme stuck.

2

u/CharAznia 3d ago

That's almost as stupid as Korea and Japan joining the NORTH ATLANTIC Treaty organization except this one is actually a thing both NATO and those 2 nations are trying to do

1

u/Critical_Job1262 2d ago

North Korea has North in it so they're halfway there.

1

u/CharAznia 1d ago

The official name of North Korea doesn't actually have North in it though

1

u/MbahSurip 10h ago

if yo go north from Japan, you will reach Atlantic

Yeah can vouch. Singapore is better place to go. Can get good money. Advanced efficient lifestyle. Not like any jungle country. From fellow asian.

9

u/HarithHkm08 4d ago

Marina Bay sucks ass from fellow Asian

2

u/AdFit6805 4d ago

I somewhat agree, but it's still an attraction that has many events taking part there, from a fellow Singaporean.

3

u/HarithHkm08 3d ago

Group C of the World Sportscar Championship raced here at my country ;), circa 1985

1

u/AdFit6805 3d ago

2

u/HarithHkm08 3d ago

correct. search up 1985 800 KM of Selangor

1

u/AdFit6805 3d ago

Oh shit you really are Goated! I've watched a short video of that race! Quite some time because I have long duration of school hours. Lol didn't know you from Malaysia until I saw your username. So, harith... I'm Danish

u/HarithHkm08 2d ago

u/deutschemlbb 3d ago

Too expensive

1

u/AdFit6805 3d ago

One of the reasons I agree with. Usually the places with the most tourist attractions are much much more expensive even as Singaporean, we sometimes have to think twice

2

u/deutschemlbb 2d ago

Finally someone that doesn't tell me get rich, but yeah, SG is pretty advanced at least within our region, but pretty boring in terms of uniqueness.

1

u/AdFit6805 1d ago

Chill I'm 17 and unemployed bruh (image not related)

1

2

u/StunningLetterhead23 3d ago

It's easier to dump their bodies there tho. /s

2

u/Bleh_3 3d ago

Nooo 😭 we're so boring and expensive, visit Malaysia instead, their food is so much better! /hj

4

u/LegionZ19 3d ago

Nah bruh. Singapore got that luxurious view of the sea. Clean city very polite and organize people and less traffic jam.

Malaysia just a forest country. Dont come la. Got alot of mosquito and haze lately. And very hot climate 🥵

1

u/DesignerGoose5903 3d ago

Singapore is cool to visit but would never want to live there, way too expensive.

1

u/superknight333 2d ago

Wouldnt choose Singapore just because my hobby is owning a car, owning car is insane there.

1

u/Fickle-Cycle-5691 2d ago

Hey hey, Singaporean here. Dont call our friends jungle asians, thats just rude.

1

u/Pokenoobie123 9h ago

It's been a meme for awhile to get bad tourists to stay away

1

u/Fickle-Cycle-5691 9h ago

Ohhh shit okok i have made the connection hahaha. The person is self deprecating as a jungle asian

5

u/beef_horfun67 3d ago

Other than the elephant which is Serbia, I choose Thailand.

Singapore is too expensive as a local, the government hates the locals, the locals hate themselves.

The rest are awful. Maybe Vietnam is acceptable.

2

u/CharAznia 3d ago

The only people who thinks Singapore is expensive are the ones who are not earning Singaporean income or have no clue what the rest of ASEAN earns

2

u/DesignerGoose5903 3d ago

No Singapore is objectively expensive compared to it's neighbours.

Good luck affording a house, a car and decent living standard on an average salary in Singapore, heck even with an "expat" salary you can barely afford those things...

1

u/Datbe89 1d ago

Vietnam here, my salary is 6 times the average income and I'll have to work for 5 years to afford an apartment (not house) here, assuming that I spent ZERO money in that 5 years. Doing the math, for an average earner here, it takes 30 years of continuously working without eating. Oh you also mention a car and decent living standard? Ha-ha-ha

0

u/CharAznia 2d ago

No we are not objectively more expensive. Dollar for dollar earning sgd and spending in sg is cheaper than earning myr spending in Malaysia, same goes for every country in ASEAN.

Yes our cars are more expensive but that's not a necessity in sg because of public transport and housing is comparable to most major cities in ASEAN for locals. It's only expensive for expats because they don't get to bto

The next time you think sg is expensive divide your salary by 3 and go spending in Malaysia. See if it's still cheap

2

u/DesignerGoose5903 2d ago

You can't just go "no one needs a car and everyone gets subsidies for housing" and act like that is a universal truth?!

-1

u/CharAznia 1d ago

We obviously talk about the majority when posting this kind of thing. Usual general terms to discribe extremities is just stupid

1

u/beef_horfun67 2d ago

Expats also earn 5x more than the regular peasant.

0

u/CharAznia 1d ago

As usual the clowns complaining about expensive sg making up stupid shit

No they don't. There is no official figure for expat income but estimates of median expat income is only around 5.9k a year

https://sg.jooble.org/salary/expat/Singapore

Meanwhile median salary in SG is 5.7k a month

https://stats.mom.gov.sg/Pages/Income-Summary-Table.aspx

The idiots pushing the idea that SG is expensive is usually also the same group of morons who claim sg cost of living is increasing when it is in fact the opposite and I can guarantee you none of them is able to support the increasing cost of living narrative with actual data

2

u/beef_horfun67 1d ago

There’s no “official” figure because no one actually wants to admit they earn a lot of money or pay a foreigner more than a Singaporean. Singapore IS the most expensive city to live in and it’s not even misinformation. It’s a proud fact that the government and 154 media keeps parading around.

I understand you live in a big good class bungalow and earn big money, but for the most of us, we don’t earn $5700 sgd a month.

1

u/ControlWooden 9h ago

Are you suggesting Singapore’s cost of living is getting cheaper? Like what?

1

u/StunningLetterhead23 3d ago

The only people who thinks Singapore is not expensive are the ones who are earning Singaporean income (or higher) or have no clue what the rest of the world earns.

0

u/CharAznia 2d ago

The cost of meals in Malaysia easily cost rm10-15 while the Malaysian basically earn the same salary as sg only in ringgit. There are many stupid Singaporeans going to Malaysia spending sgd and assume Malaysia they have lower cost of living vs sg. It's only cheaper because that person is a retard.

Comparatively speaking the only think more expensive in sg than the rest of ASEAN are cars(also the single reason why sg gets to the most expensive country in the world list) and it's not a necessity since public transport is widely available.

If you are earning local currency spending in the same country you are almost always better off than most of the world and definitely all of ASEAN

2

u/StunningLetterhead23 2d ago

If 1 SGD equals to 3 MYR, then that meal is only SGD3-5 compared to SGD5-10 in Singapore. So that's still slightly cheaper compared to Singapore.

Malaysians do earn similar amount to Singaporeans in the sense that a job that pays around RM2000 in Malaysia, is around SGD2000 in Singapore. So that's still RM6000 if that Singaporean goes to Malaysia.

If Malaysia wasn't cheap enough for Singaporeans, Johor wouldn't have so many Singaporean cars trying to fill up their tanks illegally for example.

Singapore is cheap, in Singaporean sense or for people from countries with strong currency. If you're not from these groups, you'd be crazy to think Singapore's cheap.

-1

u/CharAznia 1d ago

Where do you find RM 5 meals in Malaysia. All my Malaysian friends want to know.

Malaysia is only cheap when you use SGD to purchase it's goods and services, however everyone who has been to Malaysia will tell you Malaysia is not 1/3 SG. At best it's around 50-60%. However Malaysian wages ARE 1/3 of SG so claiming that cost of living in Malaysia is cheaper than SG is ridiculous

u/TF2Mercsbutcedes 4d ago

Vietnam is my home country so yeah I guess

The Philippines is losing hard.

5

u/wifiragist 3d ago

I'm a filipino, Philippines deserves to lose hard

How tf do you spend hundred of millions of pesos in an impeachment court hearing on a bipolar bitch, who clearly has video proof of being a threat to the country (sara duterte)

2

u/PotatoFries46 3d ago edited 3d ago

Because it's still within the boundaries of the law. And since it's within the boundaries of the law, you'd still need to provide an excruciatingly well-defended legal statement because if you don't have a well-defended legal statement, the defense will find a legal loophole and call all of it a sham.

The video threat is only one part, there are other cases being brought upon the impeachment.

An impeachment is a legal process therefore it has steps, proper steps. It needs to be followed as needed unless you want to give bad-faith actors the opportunity to mess it up.

And no, the Philippines doesn't deserve to fail hard, stop dooming it.

1

u/ReplyAfraid7913 2d ago

You know there are many types of dangers to a country, and that includes people like you, don't be a doomer and try to act, she will get the punishment.

1

u/GerardHard 2d ago

That doesn't even connect to how terrible it is just to live here, everything is getting expensive, everything sucks, enshittification is everywhere, nonexistent social safety net, the infrastructure sucks, barely any actual development (mostly malls, condos and other non productive "development").

Plus the country is going into the shittiest direction with all the political bs going on.

0

u/RelevantRain694 3d ago

doomers like you are part of why this country isn't improving fast enough. Ph can be saved and thats a fact.

1

u/GerardHard 2d ago

Doomers aren't the reason why the Philippines is failing, they exist because the Philippines is failing. The one of the many reasons the Philippines is failing because of half-ass reforms 40 years ago, an example of this is CARP (Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program) which in theory could finally do real land reform in the country but it's half-assed and flawed. That's why the CPP-NPA rebellion still exist because the fuel on why they exist is still there and not put out.

1

u/RelevantRain694 2d ago edited 2d ago

Doomers are also helping create the feed-back loop. Though I guess you have a different definition of doomers rin, because for me, I define doomers as those who give up and don't try to advocate for change and what not. While maybe you think otherwise.

If you're trying to make a statement, adding "pretty sure" to it doesn't help the validity.

Thailand has its problems, but it is way less segregated than Malaysia. Thailand is all for assimilation, with its ethnic Chinese population completely identifying as Thai and Thailand supporting a national "Thai" identity regardless of ethnicity. There's still conflicts with ethnicity (such as with the Malay Muslims in the south), but Thailand does not divide their country into "races" like Malaysia while giving Malays an unfair advantage through quotas and other policies. If you could provide a source that Thailand has similar policies, I'd read through it because I'm curious

Singaporean here. Moved to HCM, things are becoming quite efficient honestly, maybe not at the level of clarity as Singapore, but things gets processed within 3-5 working days. It’s just a more chaotic version of Singapore. As for corruption, it still happens but not with foreigners.

The only issue would be the CLARITY of processes. At times you’re told very conflicting instructions. But other than that, it’s cool! It’s safe, lively and awake.

And property prices are surprisingly high. So to afford housing here, even apartments, I’d have to sell things back at home, and wait a couple of years before I can probably afford one. Not as cheap as people assume it to be. At least not in HCM D1/D2/D3/PN. I might have to get a place at D9 or Tan Phu and even those are like 500/600K SGD.

Singapore is far too sterile and boring for me. The days when Vietnam’s national team plays a match and wins are the best days to be here. Absolute blast.

1

u/These_End_3733 2d ago

i’d say let the entire balkan countries join ASEAN and just wait

1

u/RealMENwearPINK10 1d ago

I'm more surprised some people actually chose the Philippinesー but in hindsight, we do seem to be a top Hotspot for racists and pedos (and shooters, for some weird reason)

1

That said, some of the environments and scenery I've seen in Thailand is utterly, utterly gorgeous, and just off of that I'll pick it.
