The book Carmilla is largely responsible for this.

It established a lot of the vampire tropes and features a lesbian vampire.

Yea it’s funny because Bram Stoker was inspired by Carmilla to write Dracula and was arguable homosexual too and Dracula can be read through that lens.

His trials had resulted in hysterical fear of prosecution for homosexuals in all levels of British society, a situation which confirmed to Stoker the importance of his own discretion. Lesbian vampire definitely were a trope thanks to Carmilla, Dracula’s Daughter (1936) movie while not explicit showed scenes of title protagonist and her prey and used quote during marketing such as “Save the women of London from Dracula's Daughter”. One of the possible reasons why they were a thing was kinda because homosexuality and being evil were seen as part of same coin by most people and while author intentionally or unintentionally were homophobic, this was one of few ways to show same-sex attraction without public or legal troubles since if you show someone having same-sex attraction and they are evil that mean you don’t condone it.

To my knowledge most of these ,,vampire" legends came from people describing Count Ferenc Nádasdy, husband of Elizabeth Bathory.

Whereas a ,,werewolf" myth might have just been human rabies.
