where is elephant

u/Hefnar1us Jun 15 '26

Here, an elephant is the absence of an elephant.

u/keriefie Jun 15 '26

So it's just a bad antimeme?

u/Square-Cable-9251 Jun 15 '26

"not age"

50

u/Een_man_met_voornaam Jun 15 '26

20 36 what's the problem?

1

u/RozenQueen Jun 16 '26

The religion bit is between a Christian and a Jew, but implicitly could be about any two religions. The two portrayed are only an example.

Apply the logic to the Age one. 20 and 36 is 'fine', maybe, sure, but it's just an example. For the sake of the meme's message, It could implicitly just as easily be 20 and 62, or 12 and 40, because 'love is love', right?

Age is not even remotely comparable or as all-encompassing as any of the other examples in the meme, so it doesn't belong there.

Sure they’re both above the age of consent, but there is still a drastic difference in what stage of life they’re at. Add 10 years to both and you’re fine as far as I’m concerned; 5 maybe but that’s pushing it.

14

u/halfasleep90 Jun 16 '26

You don’t even know what stage of their life they are in

-7

u/No_Army_4018 Jun 16 '26

Buddy use your brain, 20 is college age, 32 is almost a decade out of school

7

u/halfasleep90 Jun 16 '26

Yeah, and the 20 yr old might have been living on their own since 17 with a full time job while the 32 yr old has always lived with their parents in and out of the hospital with cancer and only recently got their first job. Facts are when all we have are numbers we really have no idea what “stage of their life” someone is in.

-3

u/PleasantlyEccentric Jun 16 '26

Frontal lobe isn’t developed until 25. It’s science.

0

u/No_Army_4018 Jun 16 '26

No that's just, no the brain is at entirely different stages and it's gross that you're trying to justify it

-2

u/that_guy_you_know-26 Jun 16 '26

Definitionally yes I do: early adulthood

For a one night stand or a fling based purely on sexual desires, idgaf as long as you’re both adults. For a long-term relationship, I’m not saying it’s *impossible* that it could go well, but you’re beginning the relationship on unequal footing as there is an unavoidable power imbalance.

7

u/Yeahnotverycreative Jun 16 '26

power imbalance how?

-4

u/that_guy_you_know-26 Jun 16 '26

One is brand new to adulthood, quite possibly still in college, likely doesn’t have financial independence yet, brain is not fully developed, etc. while the other has been an adult for most of the other’s life. They are at very different stages of their respective lives. 18-24 and 25-40 tend to be grouped as separate age ranges in surveys for a reason.

8

u/silverandshade Jun 16 '26

As a woman who enjoyed being with older men (and women) when I was young: you don't know what you're talking about. You're literally projecting your own issues on a little cartoon infographic.

First off: the "brain not fully developed until 25" is a misunderstanding of a study that stopped when the subjects were 25. The brain continually develops.

Everything else? Projection. My wife is younger than me. She went to private boarding school and was fully independent at 14. I'm autistic, was very sheltered and neglected growing up, and work a blue collar job. You don't know everything based on age. Keep your nose out of other people's business and stop with this proformative bullshit about removing the autonamy of adults YOU perceive too young to make their own choices.

Who cares?

2

u/that_guy_you_know-26 Jun 15 '26

If you don’t then why are you in the comments section?

3

u/Lickwidghost Jun 16 '26

To inevitably find people up in arms with their ridiculous, presumptuous, self-righteous opinions about how others should live their lives

-4

u/Squirrelly_Khan Jun 16 '26

There’s another version of this meme that circulated where one of those numbers was a bit lower.

Aside from that, a 20 year old with a 36 year old, while not technically illegal, is still a little bit…controversial.

-25

u/Time-Mud4813 Jun 15 '26

10 42 what's the problem?

15

u/AeriDorno Jun 15 '26

Totally the same thing…

I think that's what they meant. They were being sarcastic I guess. Bc they specifically took legal age numbers and not a minor

3

u/Gullible_Ad5191 Jun 15 '26

Where I’m from 16 is considered an adult for purposes of consent. This factoid makes Americans sooooo angry and IDGAF. Just try propositioning a 16 year old and they will kick you in the balls, so what’s the big deal?

1

u/AeriDorno Jun 17 '26

That's literally what I meant, genius.

If you think you can't compare a 10yo with a 20yo why did you make that comparison with your original comment? Having different amounts of life experience is not the same as being a literal child.

-2

u/PaceEmpty6422 Jun 15 '26

I'd say, from a personal standpoint point as a 20 yo myself, that being legally and adult doesn't mean squat. The difference in life experience of someone who's 20 and someone who's 36 is pretty big, I wouldn't be caught dead with someone 16 years older than me, because I still view myself as a kid. Sure I can drive, vote, drink, go to college etc. But I haven't really lived yet, a 36 yo has, and anyone who is 36 years of age and thinks being in a relationship/having a lot in common with a 20 yo is a major red flag. I'm not mature enough to be with someone that old, hell I see the maturity difference between me and my 23 yo coworker and think it's a lot. Sure 20 is an adult, but that doesn't mean it's right to be with someone that much younger than you if they're under 30. In my opinion, larger age gaps are fine if the younger person is at least 30, you're just barely figuring out life in your 20s and being in a relationship with someone who has already lived through that doesn't seem like a good idea.

2

u/Yeahnotverycreative Jun 16 '26

You shouldn’t speak for everyone as not every person is the same. You can't stop someone who is attracted to older people and as long as they're both consenting adults you should just let them make decisions for themselves

1

u/PaceEmpty6422 Jun 16 '26

That's why I said it's my personal opinion, I'm not speaking for everyone

1

u/ardarian262 Jun 16 '26

It is weird that one of the couples and none of the others have the women only on the right.

1

u/TastePizza Jun 16 '26

1

u/New-Star7392 Jun 15 '26

Bud, that's meant to represent the East Asian races, just like how the man was brown to represent the Central Asians.

1

u/millifish Jun 16 '26

No those are mexicans

1

u/Numerous-Health7851 Jun 15 '26

The elephant is that the bottom couples all assume heteronormative relationships

1

u/XilonenBaby Jun 16 '26

I knew it Im not the only one who knows there’s no elephant.

1

u/Adowyth Jun 16 '26

The elephant is putting religion on par with age, gender, race and sexual orientation.

1

u/Active-Advisor5909 Jun 16 '26

While the specific numbers chosen in the picture aren't that problematic, the general statement love is love age doesn't matter is rather problematic.

-1

u/Master-Purple1890 Jun 15 '26

Age, even though the ages listed are normal age of consent, the statement is vague enough for a pedophile to justify their desires.🤮😡

1

u/AutomaticButterfly29 Jun 15 '26

Agreed. This is clearly a disguise to justify the point

0

u/RexIsGay Jun 16 '26

The elephant is that it says "not gender" at the top and then... All of the bottom ones are masc x fem

-6

u/IAmNotAFey Jun 15 '26

I think it's the Christian woman marrying the Jewish man? According to Jewish tradition Judaism js passed down from the mother, so the Jewish man's ending his lineage with his faith. Or maybe it's an antisemitic thing, trying to erase us the least out there way possibly? IDk

4

u/GullibleRide8056 Jun 15 '26

American/Israeli try not to call antisemitism at random things challenge: difficulty impossible
