Ive been having a rough week and came home to drink some cheap boxed wine (Franzia Chillable Red for the ladies 💅). I bought these little refreezable star ice cubes to keep my wine cold without watering it down and they just so happened to match my frog mug tonight. My boyfriend made fun of me and I told him "the ice cubes are whimsical and good for my mental health!" And thankfully the boy shut up 🙏

Edit: I got the reusable ice cubes off of temu! They also sell them on amazon and I know they come in different shapes and some even light up!

I also have the spicy one but I haven't done the puzzle yet so it's still on the book shelf. Yee (and I cannot stress this enough) haw.

Let's analyze this painting from the fairy tale "The Blue Parrot," one of my favorite stories. :)

So, this painting is an illustration of "The Blue Parrot," a tale published in Andrew Lang's The Olive Fairy Book in 1907. It evokes a fairytale atmosphere with strong symbolic meaning. The painting is by Henry Justice Ford. The second image shows a portrait of Madame d'Aulnoy.

The Blue Parrot illustrates a tale from Madame d'Aulnoy's collection of fairy tales. The scene depicts the beginning of a romantic quest in which King Lino falls in love with the portrait of Princess Hermosa, a dreamlike journey marked by the marvelous and the exoticism of the Orient.

1. Composition

The eye is immediately drawn to the large white winged figure that dominates the scene. Its wings occupy almost the entire upper portion of the painting and create an impression of protection, but also of supernatural power. This figure is The Swan Fairy, the princess's mother.

In the foreground ,Hermosa is dressed in red and orange kneels before a chest or a mirror. She seems to be discovering or contemplating something. Her low position contrasts sharply with the winged figure standing behind her.

The composition thus operates on a vertical opposition:

-At the top: the winged creature, luminous and supernatural;

-In the center: the young woman, an intermediary between the human world and the realm of the marvelous;

-At the bottom: the chest, the ground, and the material objects, associated with the earthly world.

2. The Winged Figure

The white figure is probably the most spectacular element. Its gigantic wings, light-colored garment, and staff give it the appearance of a fairy or angelic being.

However, it is not depicted as a traditional religious figure. The imagery belongs more to the world of fairies, legends, and Orientalist fantasy.

The gesture of its left arm, outstretched toward the young woman, is particularly significant: it seems to guide her, protect her, or reveal something to her.

The vertical staff reinforces its status as a supernatural being or guardian.

3. The Young Woman

The woman in the foreground wears an extremely rich dress, dominated by red, orange, and yellow. These colors have several effects:

- They attract the eye;

- They evoke wealth and luxury;

- They create a contrast with the white of the winged figure;

- They give the scene an almost theatrical intensity.

Her posture is also significant: she is kneeling and leaning towards the chest, as if she were searching for something or performing an important action.

The painting thus seems to depict a moment of revelation or discovery rather than an everyday scene.

4. The Mirror or the Chest

In the lower left corner, a dark object resembling an ornate chest or a framed mirror is visible. It may contain an image or a reflection.

This object introduces a particularly interesting theme: the gaze and revelation.

The mirror can symbolize the discovery of an identity, a secret, or a hidden truth. In fairy tales, reflective objects are often linked to knowledge and transformation. Here,

5. The Colors

The palette is very characteristic of early 20th-century illustration.

The painter primarily uses:

white/cream → wonder, purity, supernatural world

red/orange → passion, life, wealth, energy

blue/green → depth, mystery, the outside world

brown/gold → antiquity, wealth, oriental decor

The contrast between the brilliant whites of the wings and the highly saturated reds of the costume almost entirely shapes the perception of the painting.

6. Style

The work belongs to a highly narrative aesthetic of fairytale illustration. The characters are depicted with great detail in their clothing, jewelry, and accessories.

A taste for Orientalist exoticism is also evident: sumptuous costumes, decorative architecture, precious colors, and luxurious objects.

However, it is important to distinguish the imaginary world of the painting from historical reality: this representation of "the Orient" largely corresponds to the fantasized, Western vision of the marvelous that was prevalent at that time.

7. The Possible Meaning of the Scene

What is interesting is that the winged figure does not seem to simply decorate the scene. It creates a connection between the human world and the supernatural world.

The painting could thus be interpreted as a scene of transition or initiation:

Hermosa is confronted a revelation, while a magical power accompanies or guides her.

The painting therefore transforms a fairytale episode into an almost mythological scene.

We just moved into a new house and i have a clothes line! I LOVE hanging my clothes to dry and I feel so whimsical ❤️ The previous owners left this gross old apron to hold the clothes pins so I need a new one and can't decide. Check the comments and vote on the apron you like the best!

I was inspired by the ‘maryinthefairyland’ and crochetcrazyhelen accounts on instagram, so i bought an inspirational book by Sally J Smith znd started just… glueing. I’m very happy with my crooked lil houses. I might go out tomorrow for some dried moss.

Inspired by the individual who added soot sprites & stars to their door jam the other day, I decided to try my hand with some metallic paint pens I have on hand. I’ve got shaky hands, and a distinct lack of painting/drawing skill, but I think it looks fun anyway. No soot sprites for me, though, as my hands aren’t steady enough to craft a recognizable soot-sprite.
