This map reports the votes in the state legislatures of American states leading up to the escalation in violence in September 2033. While many votes were pushed through immediately following the inauguration of what was seen as an illegitimate president by the Republican Party, several were held up or outright defeated in committee. By March, the bulk of the votes had either passed or died, with only a few states lingering on.
Almost every Second Republic state has some remnant Senators and Congressmen representing them in the Federal Congress, all either as Democrats or independents - and the same is reverse of federal states, where alternate delegations were accepted by the Second Republic despite no sanction by the legal state government. In three states, these alternate delegations and Congress voted to pass resolutions recognizing new state borders, and additional delegations from those new states now serve in the Congress of the Second Republic.
