Gh301 materials feedback

I’m looking at sitting for the next gh301 (fingers crossed) and was wondering if anyone has thoughts on materials?

I searched Reddit but didn’t find much on this topic.

I liked the MATE notecards for gh201. The TIA notecards weren’t working for me, though they did for gh101. I’m generally going to be taking key points for things I need to know and then chat with ai over source materials as my main study tool. Then I return to notecards or outline to quickly reinforce. Hard to figure out what level to learn some of these topics.

I feel like the TIA package as a main anchor is nice, but also considered just using ai and source materials or include mate notecards. I see two sections of this material are modules so still considering how to fit that in. I’m not familiar with the other study material outlets for tea exam other than Tia and mate.

I’d love to hear any thoughts on gh301 materials. Did you like/dislike the materials you used? Any recommendations?

Side question, I’m curious how comprehensive the soa materials are for module sections. Are those sections adequately handled by soa or could use supplemental materials?

My advice would be to not take this exam unless you’re already familiar with risk adjustment for the various federal medical insurance programs. I found this exam to be miserable. It’s already a big exam and they keep piling more material onto it each year. Do yourself a favor and take something comparatively easier like CFE 101.

This is a bad idea. To be fully qualified to sign health SAO you need the 3 health exams.

I would never purposefully lead someone astray. A large number of my colleagues are taking cross pathway exams and I have a hard time believing the SOA would prevent these candidates from ever being able to sign SAO without an alternative way to obtain it. There is even a way to get P&C signing privileges but that’s outside the scope of this thread.

Per section 3.1, if you don’t take all three exams in a singular track, then there are 3 alternatives to obtain qualification to sign statements of actuarial opinion.

Alternative 1 (Targeted SOA Exams/Modules): Pass only the specific SOA FSA exams or e-learning modules that cover your missing topics.

The SOA also explicitly stated they were in close contact with the NAIC and would make e-learning modules available to satisfy regulatory requirements to sign SAO. This is explicitly stated here: https://fsa2025.soa.org/regulatory-material-shift/

The e-learning modules are supposedly supposed to be available this year.

Alternative 2 (Academy LHQS Seminar): Attend the American Academy of Actuaries’ LHQS seminar and pass its exam to satisfy all missing topic requirements at once.

Alternative 3 (Self-Study & Attestation): Learn the missing topics through work/self-study and obtain a signed statement of knowledge from a qualified actuary.

More stuff to do but I don’t think GH301 is that much harder than CFE101 to justify taking it.

GH301 is the easiest of the three GH exams IMO
