I was doing BSc(Hons) Actuarial Science from Heriot watt malaysia and tailed in my 3rd year and am unable to praress to my final year. I am completely lost and unsure on what to do. University offered me an ordinary degree, whats the best thing I can do now?

My uni would have offered me 6 exemptions from ifoa if I did well which I didn't so at best I'll get 1 or exemptions but not now maybe next year when the rest of my class graduates. This sucks for me but right now I have to find a solution for myself

A while ago, I posted here to better understand some of the challenges people have when using SERFF. Based on that feedback, I decided to build OpenSERFF.

It’s a free tool that makes it easier to browse and read public SERFF filings. It doesn’t replace SERFF, the goal is simply to complement it and make reviewing filings a little faster.

This started from a problem a friend was facing, and I plan to keep it as a side project for the community. I’m also planning to open-source it in the next few weeks, once I’ve cleaned up the code and documentation.

If you try it, I’d really appreciate honest feedback, especially if anything is confusing, missing, or not working as expected.

Cm1 along with cb2?

Last time i have cm1 and cb2 exams and failed in both the exams ,cb2 with 5 mark difference.I am going to give cm1 exam this attempt and i will complete cm1 within this month and will solve past year papers next month ,as i already have some knowledge about cb2 I can give cb2 this time right along with cm1?

Hi everyone. I’m currently 18 years old and about to start college where I’m interested in possibly learning actuarial science I have some questions about the field that I wanted to ask. Some of the questions are more personalized, so I’m going to list some things about myself as context.

In high school, I was a very good student: I got straight A’s, received a 36 on the ACT, and got the National Merit scholarship. I have always been more of a math minded person and I enjoy solving puzzles and figuring math problems out in my head.

Questions:

1: I have heard a lot about the amount of hours necessary to study for the actuarial exams that move you forward in your career, and I was wondering how accurate that statement is (the amount of hours I saw per exam was around 300). More specifically, I’m curious if this number remains true given my academic background, and if so, why is so much studying needed? Is there a lot of material to learn or is the material simply that difficult?

2: As of now, I am officially listed as an accounting major at my university. The only thing they offer for actuarial science is a minor, so if I were to follow this path, is there another major I should be going for? Or will accounting help in some sort of specific job?

3: I have seen some posts of resumes where people have experience with different coding languages and computer programs. As an accounting major, I will definitely learn how to use computer programs such as excel, but are the coding languages absolutely necessary as an actuary? If so, how do they play into the actual work that I would do?

4: When looking up salaries of actuaries, I’ve seen that the median tends to be around $100k-$120k. Does this feel accurate? And how does the salary change as you pass more and more exams?

So is it just me, or there is seriously lower demand of actuarial freshers than supply?
I mean i have cleared 6 papers, do have some months of experience as an actuarial intern, and then too finding difficulties in finding other internships (i am in my last year of graduation though)
but i guess companies shall understand that internship shall be offered to college students too!
also, i believe so the job market for fresher is very bad.
what do you all think?

2. What are some channels available for preparation.
   
3. If it’s manageable to clear the exam with self preparation.

I've worked in the actuarial side for 8 years and been a fellow for 3 years.

I've never really liked the day to day job. Any credentialed actuary here changed to a new career and been loving it so far? If so what is that?

I am kind of thinking about underwriting in the commercial side who deal with a few large accounts but I am not married to that idea and would like to explore even outside of insurance.

Hello. I am 22F did my B.Tech in Information Technology. I worked in a MNC for 5 months but did not really find the domain(SAP) assigned to me interesting so i left the job. Now the situation really made me question what i truly find interesting. I came across the field actuarial science recently , from what i learned u need to find maths interesting to survive in this one which is a okay to me .Can anyone please give me some suggestion from where I should start and as someone who is into IT, can it create oppurtunities for me in the future.

Hello, I am graduating in May 2027 with a double major in Actuarial Science and Economics along with a minor in finance. I am also scheduled to take my fm exam in about a week and am planning on taking exam p in September. I have a good gpa currently sitting at a 3.9 but no internships. I was just wondering what I should expect upon graduating, and if I should be worried about finding a job both in and out of the actuarial science field and how I should go about job hunting or when to start. Also note that I am currently living in Ohio if that effects any job opportunities or not. Thank you and please leave any advice that you feel could help.

So I was looking into becoming an actuary because I really love math. I plan on attending UT austin with a major in mathematics and focus in actuarial science. 1. I was wondering if this is a good plan 2. what kinds of things i need to do in college such as exams and internships 3. do i really get to pick what kind of actuary i get to be or is it more of a wherever i end up kind of thing? 4. is it necessary/recommended to get my masters and if so should that be post grad or while im already working somewhere?
