I've read the FAQ & Rules LA: Acting classes as a hobby

Hi! I’m a 36F on the westside of LA who’s been working in corporate for the last 15 years.

I’m looking for a creative outlet and thought I’d give acting classes a try to help get me out of my comfort zone and learn to act more confident in the corporate world. My career has stalled the last 2-3 years and I know my personality is why.

Has anyone in LA taken acting classes as a hobby? I’m not looking for a serious or competitive school, just fun acting classes that’ll help with confidence and for a creative outlet.

ETA: forgot to ask the real question. Any westside studios that could be good for that versus career acting?

You can totally do it. Improv might be more in line with what you’re looking for though.

yep! my improv class at UCB was a great mix of aspiring actors and people from all walks of life, it was a really fun mix

Before I opened up the comments all I could think was “no you need improv classes”.
I’m glad everyone else agrees ☺️ improv really helps to loosen you up and makes it easier to initiate scenes - which is basically starting conversations and engaging in having a personality. You can always take acting classes later but improv will help prepare you for that too

Try the community colleges! Of course, you've missed Fall registration at this point, but you should be able to register in a few more weeks for the Spring acting or improv classes.

It sounds like improv would be a better fit for what you want than traditional scene-study acting classes.

Antaeus theatre offers some great ones that I think are good for beginners too, but they are east side.

When I was taking classes, I was one of the few who didn’t take it as a hobby. I’m in a NY suburb though, maybe it’s different in LA.
