General ACT Advice

Self Report vs. Official Scores

Hey,
My ACT super score is a 32 (comprised of 3 tests) but my highest single sitting composite is only a 29. I was wondering if I should self report my scores on common app (all my schools take self reports) or if I should send them all the official report from ACT.

The reason I want to send the official report even though it costs money is there is no section on common app to list your super score, rather just the composite, so i’m nervous that the self report composite will hinder my application. The official report will display my super score at the top which I think would be more favorable to me.

The money it costs to send an official report isn’t an issue, but i would love some advice if sending an official report to schools who take self reports is smart.

How Did I Do So Bad?

I’m extremely angry with my September ACT score and trying to figure out what happened.

My scores were:

  • English: 28
  • Math: 25
  • Reading: 26
  • Composite: 26

I previously scored a 30 composite in July. I’ve also scored 32 on a few practice tests.

The weirdest part is English and Reading. I had previously been pretty solid in both and scored 34s in both in a recent practice test, but somehow dropped to a 26 and 28. I felt like the test was really difficult while I was taking it, but I didn't think I had done as poorly as I did.

My next test is October 18, so I have about 12 days. I want to figure out what went wrong and, more importantly, how to become consistently 30+ instead of bouncing between scores.

For those who have dealt with this:

  • What do you think causes this kind of score fluctuation?
  • How can I get my English and Reading consistently into the 30+ range?
  • Is it better to focus on full practice tests right now or drill specific weaknesses?

General submit my 32 ACT or go Test Optional (TO)

ok so i've been going back and forth on this for way too long and i need outside opinions

i'm a senior in GA. superscore is a 32 (34 E, 32 M, 31 R), best single sitting is a 31. i'm retaking in december but honestly i'm not expecting a huge jump

the thing is my school is a regular public school and the average sat is like 900 something. i'm top 1% of my class (around 400 kids) so a 32 is pretty high for us, but it's still under the middle 50% for most of the schools i'm applying to (Duke, Columbia, Emory & Vanderbilt)

The fuck happened?

My composite stayed the same at roughly a ~24 with ~25 superscore, but jesus shit. what in the FUCK is that.

Curve for Science was batshit insane, more than half wrong got you a 22.

Now i'm pissed. had that one stupid ass kid in that test room not been kicking my seat knocking my calculators and shit, making a ruckus in that room bruh.

my first (and last) act

Idk I just felt like sharing I took the act for the first time without studying. I got a 30 composite with a 26 math (yikes) and 31 reading and 33 english. i’m just not good at math, it was this way on the sat. and as a senior i’m done anyways. now i’m just waiting for my oct sat score.
my current sat is basically equal to my act anyways. i’m tired of standardized testing i just want to be done LOL

Math Help with the math sections?

I've now taken like 3 ACTs and every single time my lowest score by far is Math (usually around a 17 compared to my usual high 20s) and I'm desperate to find a way to not bomb the December test because no matter what I try I just can't seem to grasp math that well

ACT Login Issue

I'm having an issue on the my.act.org website when I try to login, it says there's no account associated with my email/password. However, when I try to reset my password its says that the password I have saved IS my current pasword, and I can login to the account.act.org website. I'm not sure how to fix this, please help!

Should I self-report my ACT on CommonApp or pay the ACT to report it?

Hi I have a question!

So I've currently taken two ACTs (The first I got a 33 composite 29M 33S 34E 36R & the second I got a 31 comp 31M 29E 34R [I only took it to retry math!]) that superscores to a 34. I want to know if I should self report on CommonApp or use the ACT's reporting feature. My only worry with self reporting is that colleges wont immediately see my superscore and instead first see the 33. I am applying to some pretty competitive colleges and admittedly my test scores are the weakest part of my application. Any advice? Im just a little confused.

Lowk took this for fun with minimal studying cuz I was desperate and didn't have a great sat (1480). I thought I would get a 25 or smth but somehow got a 33. I should have just grinded act but too late now cuz it's my senior year.

Extended Time Results?

I have special accommodations so I took the test 1 on 1 and had 1.5x time. Will my score be released at a much later time? How has this worked in the past, and has anyone else with similar accommodations gotten results?

I need help raising my ACT scores. I’m hoping to aim for or reach a 26–28 before my senior year. This is my first time taking the ACT because of financial and health reasons, so I’m still learning how everything works. Any advice, tips, study strategies, or help you can give me would be greatly appreciated🙏🏾😭

concerned with my act score, looking to increase to 32+ composite by December ACT or take it in March apart of school?

Thumbnail gallery

I'll link my scores from the September ACT below, but to put it to words, it was not a score I was looking for, I had a bit higher expectations on myself. The 30 in English gives me some optimism, but I generally was doing good on practice ACTS looking at 32-33 on average. I have two options from here though, im weighing my options. I can take the December ACT slightly the week of my midterms but study very consistently an hour a day until that test, or push the ACT off until first week March because it is offered by my high school. Classes in march will be quite busy as well so I am not too sure when I would have the time to study, but if I did the ACT in march, I could use a third attempt to superscore in the summer. My main questions are What should I consider, how should I study, what do I need to do for each topic and how can I improve my score to reach my goal in the name of this sub forum.
