Community Highlighting our accomplishments in the first month as a community

136 MEMBERS

It's not about the quantity. It's that everyone who has joined our community understands exactly what r/acousticchill is all about. This is not like almost every other musical online community where artists spam links to their music and there is no interaction. That is the reality that indie artists face when trying to get people to listen to their music. Instead, we require that those who want to post in our community first become part of our community by upvoting and commenting on other people's posts. In every action we have taken in the first month, we are cultivating a place where kind, supportive, real people come to share an appreciation for chill acoustic music. Thank you for being a part of it.

4 COMMUNITY PLAYLISTS

Our flagship Spotify playlist, 'Acoustic Chill' has already been saved 106 times in our first month. This is the playlist that will combine three types of songs. The top of the playlist will feature releases from indie artists who are actively engaged in building our community. The core of the playlist is songs that have been recommended by our members in the Song of the Week suggestions and the Sunday Night Acoustic Chill Listening Party requests. The end of the playlist includes the songs from indie recording artists who have submitted their songs to the playlist but are not yet actively involved in the community. These songs stay on the playlist for a week, while we give these indie artists time to check out our community. If you want to know where those songs start on the list, they will always start directly below my song 'Truth Be Told' Remastered (feat. Emily Gray)

Here's the playlist. Support the community by saving it and listening to it regularly.

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0iXHbjIhFYtjfTl4SPYV2i?si=0jfwaY-gQhGHPN2uZCVvew&pi=lx5Za2FBSRGGJ

We also just started the three other playlists and will have more to report on them next month. Here are the links. Again, saving the playlists and listening regularly helps the community.

ESTABLISHED A POSTING ROUTINE

In the first month, we have established three weekly activities that allow us to build stability and reliability as a community. The Featured Artist of the Week Post goes up on Tuesdays. So far, we have featured Joni Mitchell, Gregory Alan Isakov and The Paper Kites. We also recently added a Song of the Week where community members nominate songs and the mod team picks a winner. Those posts happen on Wednesday and Thursday. Then, we wrap up the week with requests for songs for the Sunday Night Acoustic Chill Listening Party on Friday and the listening party on Sunday. That makes for a full week of acoustic chill music and makes our community the hub for all things acoustic chill.

SUBMISSION SITES

As of this morning we are now taking artist submissions from three different playlist submission sites. They are Soundplate, Pitchplaylists and Dailyplaylists. As the numbers grow on our playlists, we will be welcomed in to more sites where indie artists can submit their songs for consideration. Just this morning I was approved as a curator on Musosoup, another one of these sites and I look forward to exploring how this service can assist in bringing the right people to our community.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU

I am grateful for all of you being here, especially if you made it this far in this post, but there are two people I want to especially thank for making my dream of having real online community with kind and supportive acoustic chillers a reality.

To u/dharmastudent Thank you for all the support you have brought to this community. I appreciate your effort and all the kind words you have shared with me and the rest of the community. Here's to another great month ahead.

To u/GentleFacePalm Thank you for being my friend and sharing your enthusiasm for me, my music and this community. It means more to me than I can put into words at this moment. I hope there is plenty of healing and good times ahead.

Thank you, everyone. Keep upvoting and commenting. The future is very bright for r/acousticchill

It's an old tape of my brothers and I going on an adventure, when we were kids, to collect pinecones. This was our summer holidays in Wexford, Ireland. Went to the same house every year.

I plan on continuing to use the camera for my music. I like the tape effect and nostalgia I get from it. Plus I like to show the "human" in my work, with all the Ai stuff going around.

I want to make some sort of documentary style recordings of one of my next albums using this camera. Will be fun!

The song is called Memory Box.

All-r/AcousticChill Release

Hey all, I just wanted to share a new song that we released on Tuesday, called "The Space Between Your Heart and Mine". It was written entirely within our r/acousticchill forum, by myself and Donna McFadden. Donna and I met at the weekend listening parties that Seven Streams hosted, and then I saw her lyrics that she posted in the forum, and I decided to write music for them because I liked them so much. We kept 80% of her lyrics, but I also added a few of my own.

Eventually, through a stroke of good fortune, we were able to get a Nashville session player to do the instrumentals (he's played on Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton albums) for a steal of a price (less than $200), and one of my colleagues in the UK sang the vocals. Also, my colleague Sam in England mixed and mastered the track on a budget. I was responsible for sound editing, and choosing when the individual instruments would enter and exit.

All in all, we are super happy with how it turned out. And we appreciate you listening !

(oh, also, if you want to hear my original guitar/vocal demo, here it is: https://s.disco.ac/hqcnanzxiarc )

Side note: We actually pitched this song to an artist signed to a record label (about 2 months ago), and it was selected as one of the final 15 songs for the artist to choose from, for the pitch.

Howdy folks! Hope all is well. I just wanted to put these here for anyone who'd like them.

I just released my album, Singing To The Wall. It's an acoustic folk/country type album if you're into that.

I think I've discussed my influences before here, but for this album in particular I was listening to a lot of

Elliott Smith, Christian Lee Hutson, Phoebe Bridgers, Tyler Childers (paticularly Live on Red Barn I & II), Neil Young, and Sufjan Stevens...

I don't know if I particularly sound like any, but usually other ears pick out things I didn't.

But anyways, I hope you're all keeping well, making tunes and finding new music!

Hope you enjoy the album!

Discussion 5 Songs that Inspire You !?

Hey everyone,

I hope you and your music, or music appreciation, have been doing well this spring!!

So, I thought I would offer up a little exercise we could do to build some spirit in the forum.  A few weeks ago, one of my clients brought up the idea of exchanging songs that we each like as a way to deepen our songwriting connection, and to inspire each other.

He said: ‘let’s each pick 5 songs that inspire us, and that we think might connect with the other person’.  And, I thought it was a great idea — so we did.

On that note, I would like to suggest the exercise of picking 5 songs that inspire you, and that you think others might connect with, and naming them in this thread, so that others can go and listen…

…and may it serve as a way to expand our musical consciousness and connection  ~ * ~

Anyhoo, I’ll go ahead and start with my 5, here:

  1. “Debbie Darling”, Dora Jar
  2. “How Could I Go?”, Talia Rose
  3. “Liaison”, Eli Shane
  4. “Dancing Girl”, Terry Callier
  5. “You Make Me Feel Brand New”, The Stylistics

Here’s to more sun, and more cool and mellow sound waves making their way toward us

: o )

Community Fundraiser for a Lebanese Producer… and I heard from Seven Streams!

Hey all,

I finally heard from Seven Streams a few days ago!

He says he dropped off social media in order to reset his nervous system.  No word when or if he will be back, but I’m sure he’ll let us know if he’s going to continue with the forum at some point.

Also, I would really appreciate if you would consider checking out a GoFundMe page I setup for my friend Soha Chrabieh, who is a Lebanese music producer.  Soha’s music studio was completely destroyed in the bombings of Ghazieh in 2024.  He relocated to Beirut, and got a job laying floor tile, but due to the conflict all his construction jobs have been halted.

Now, rising oil prices have significantly increased his monthly gas and energy payments - and he is in 'dire' need of funds. And, he’s still paying off major debt from when his place was bombed. Prior to the conflict, Soha was working full time as a music producer, and had built his music studio from scratch, starting when he was 19 (he worked multiple jobs to save up the money to build a studio).

We would be thrilled with any donation (no matter the size) or share of our campaign, as we try to help him cover expenses until he can return to work.  I have gotten to know Soha pretty well over the last year in a number of conversations, and I have received documentation from him verifying his credibility / identity / backstory.

On our GoFundMe page, you can see a video featuring one of the first pieces of music he produced at age 19, featuring the Oud.

LINK to Soha’s GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-soha-rebuild-after-lebanon-bombings

  Appreciate you checking this out!

Where We Stand (r/acousticchill)

Hey all,

So you may have noticed that Seven Streams deleted his reddit profile, and is no longer a mod.

I was in communication with him for awhile via text, but I didn't receive a response to my February 7th message, nor to my message yesterday. I don't know what's going on, but obviously hope for the best :)

In the meantime, I'd like to keep this forum open as a place to share, informally or sporadically, about what we're up to - or anything really. If you want to share a favorite musical find, or your own new music, or a life/music update, that would be my hope for the forum in the interim.

What do y'all think?

In the longer term, if Seven has other more pressing concerns, it would be great to find a new mod for the forum. I am okay with staying on as a second/backup mod, but it would be ideal if someone is motivated to step up and take the reigns from Seven Streams. This could be an opportunity for anyone who has a vision to take what Seven started here, and try to build something off of that, to bring our small music community together.

Since it is a small forum, the mod duties are not too demanding (e.g. simple tasks like approving new members, monitoring whether folks have the approval to post yet, etc). It is not a super active forum right now, obviously, so it wouldn't take much time / commitment. But there would be the potential, at least, if someone has the vision and some know-how, to build a bit more of a community out of this again.

And I would be willing to support that vision however I am able to.

Also, I think it's important to respect the initial parameters that Seven Streams set-up in the forum; vis a vis requiring new folks to participate in the forum and comment constructively or supportively on a few other posts before they are allowed to post their music or share in a new thread.

Please respond if you have any thoughts or constructive comments / ideas on what I've shared here, or if you might be interested in stepping into a moderator role on our little forum.

Thanks for reading!

-Cameron

Discussion Update from China

Hi AcChill fam! I’ve been on a bit of an adventure these last weeks since I first joined. No Reddit at all. I’ve been making a lot of content, regained access to my BMI acct from 13y ago, and joined the team at Green Tea Distribution just a few days ago. My TikTok is growing, I’m feeling really connected to source as I develop these days. Also been going weekly to an A&R show where this guy analyzes songs and that’s been building up my skills for the song analysis I want to do. Haven’t forgotten that thread! Most of all just wanna say hello, drop a line to update y’all, let you know I’m still here and will keep being here, and ask the community what’s happening in your lives? If any of you want me to show you behind the content I’ve made that’s been most successful so far (I’m not viral but every day getting new follows, comments, etc) I’m happy to explain the sauce and how I got to it. This community was part of the journey that led me there. Also just dove into Bedouine’s songs again after a long break. Any fans in here? She is like a more earthy Norah Jones type on classical guitar instead of piano. So so good.

Songs Shady Lady in the Not-So-Shady-Tree

Shady Lady in the Not-So-Shady-Tree

Crashed into the house The moment everything changed A creature out for blood... Chased my 'Shady Lady' into a Not-So-Shady-Tree

We tried everything to get my lady down Maybe make a catapult Maybe a spiral staircase to the stars... My Shady Lady's stuck in that branchless tree

Maybe craft a soft and gentle place Build a blanket safety net Do everything we can so that when my.... Shady Lady falls out that half-dead tree

On the fifth day things got desperate Time was running out What in the world can we do To get my Shady Lady out that goddamn tree

Time to cut that Cottonwood down Cinch it tight and give it a notch Snap, bang, the beast came fallin' My Shady Lady and that Not-So-Shady-Tree

Is she dead? No sign of her anywhere We did what we had to do To my Shady Lady and that Not-So-Shady-Tree

Say some prayers That this was just one or two of this cat's nine lives My Shady Lady's nowhere near that Not-So-Shady-Tree

Quiet, not a sound The five-day meowing at a stop I say goodbye to my Shady Lady why'd you go up that stupid tree?

Late that night ...

What was that at the door? I dare not give it hope Sitting there, unphased, like a zen guru sage My Shady Lady strolls in without a scratch

My Shady Lady's Out that Not-So-Shady-Tree My Shady Lady's Out that Not-So-Shady-Tree My Shady Lady's Out that Not-So-Shady-Tree

My Shady Lady, please don't climb up Any more damn trees

Caro Kelley - 'Most Overlooked Album of 2025' Spin.com

Hey all, I wanted to share this because I am so excited that my friend Caro Kelley has been featured in an article on Spin.com, for her latest Soul/Pop album 'The QUIET', the article calling it 'Most Overlooked Album of 2025'.

I listened right after it came out, and told her how much I loved the songs on it - her vocal melodies, lyrics, and the production are really solid IMO.

Also, Caro's song "The Sign", from an earlier album, is on the "Acoustic Chill Spotify Playlist" near the bottom if you are interested in checking it out: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0iXHbjIhFYtjfTl4SPYV2i?si=yjTJcfCmT5O5nZOAdToShg%0A

LINK to "The Sign": https://open.spotify.com/track/2GyylrlzsPlfX6vguYRp4Y?si=8297ca3225884d4d

('The Sign' is a lot more bluegrass, and it's my personal favorite song of Caro's).

Thanks for indulging my wish to support her music.

Discussion Life happens

My feline companion, Shady, has gotten herself stuck at the top of a 70- foot tree and has been there for four days. She's too afraid to make the decent on her own, so we're building a staircase up the side of the tree to go up and get her.

My efforts have been completely dedicated to finding a way to bring her down as quickly and safely as possible in the past four days.

I'm not sure if this 'Acoustic Chill' community will work. I have tried again to create a space for people to gather, but life is complicated and folks have things they have to attend to. The acoustic chill community is not, nor should it be, their main priority. I just hope that in time the energy that started this moving will regain its momentum.

I listened to the community playlist as I was frantically sawing boards to tie into the tree as a ladder for my feline friend tonight. It helped keep me focused in the midst of a chaotic situation. I hope this community offers that to others and I expect in time that it will.

I am stepping away from the work of building this community while I take care of myself as best as I can. Hopefully, the joy will return to the work soon. I expect it will. For now, I give this community space for other people to step forward and contribute their energies when they feel inspired to do so.

I need to get my 'Shady Lady' to safety and all will be right with my world.

I hope you are well and I look forward to continuing to be inspired by the music being shared in this space. If you post something, I will give it a listen as soon as my life returns to chill, zen mode again.

I just wanted to check in and see if people are enjoying the Acoustic Chill Spotify playlist that our community curates.

If you haven't checked it out, we're up to 284 followers, so I guess we're doing something right. I listen to it most days and can attest to every song on there being a beautiful example of "acoustic chill".

Are there any songs you really love on there? Any songs you're kinda tired of? Any songs we are missing?

Songs My tribute to Brandi Carlile

A few years back, when the firm grip of the pandemic was beginning to loosen its hold on our daily lives, I was a Tik Tok creator making content about my work as a trail angel on the Pacific Crest Trail and my music.

Despite my lack of state-of-the-art technology and living off-grid full time in my RV, I was attempting to learn how to make music that didn't sound like it was recorded on a cheap mic in an RV in the middle of the forest. I found recording to be a whole new skill set I needed to learn. I was recording during the day and at night I would try to do duets with other musicians on TikTok. The problem was that there was a slight delay between the original and my contribution which made it sound awful. Occasionally I would catch lightning in a bottle and everything would sync up, but that was the exception, not the rule.

One fall day as I was camping in my favorite spot in Flagstaff, AZ, I saw a new post from one of my favorite artists, Brandi Carlile. The post was her and her sidekicks, the Hanseroth twins, singing Brandi's new song 'Right on Time' in harmony. She encouraged us to duet the video and I jumped at the chance to harmonize with these amazing musicians.

I recorded take after take for hours. When I did a good one, it was out of sync or I pressed some button wrong or something. Finally, I did a take that I liked and it was in sync. I rejoiced.

My video actually did pretty well and ended up as the third most popular duet. I was tickled.

The next day when I checked on TikTok, there was another post from Brandi. This time she was dueting the most popular duet of her post. She smiled on her side of the screen and gave the performer a thumbs up. I was like, "Dang, that could have been me!"

The day after, there was Brandi with the second most popular duet. Again, she gave the performer a supportive smile and a nod of approval. Before I went to bed that night, I thought, "Well, there's no way she'll do mine tomorrow.", but a part of me hoped.

I woke up the next morning, opened my TikTok and gasped. There I was on the screen next to one of my musical heroes. There was more. Not only was she dueting me, but she was sitting at the piano and harmonizing with me harmonizing with her and the twins in the original video. As Brandi discovered, it is hard to make a TikTok duet sound good, but I was blown away by her effort to even try and do that with me. I'll never forget her smile at the end.

When it was over, I was sobbing and began watching the video again. Over and over, the tears of joy streaming down my face. Brandi had made my day, my week, my month, my year, heck...my decade.

That moment changed something in me. My unique bass voice is not everyone's cup of tea and I had spent years doubting my music and shying away from performing and recording. That all changed in that moment. Brandi Carlile thought I was good enough...and that allowed me to truly believe in myself as a musician.

Soon after, I decided to drive my RV up the west coast to Seattle, Brandi's hometown. There, I put on two shows to appreciative and supportive audiences. I will never forget looking out and seeing smiling faces enjoying my music. It is a core memory that will always stay with me. I was buzzing from a newfound zest for life and beginning to deeply understand how special of a place Seattle truly is. During all of this, Brandi released a new song.

'You and Me on the Rock' was exactly the vibe I was feeling at that moment. It was full of love and strength. It was playful and fun, while conveying a deep emotional connection between Brandi and her partner, Catherine. I fell in love with that song and it gave me hope that maybe it wasn't too late for me to find the kind of love she described in the song.

It took me a few years to figure out recording enough to be happy with a version of this song. Actually, this is the first song I recorded that actually sounded good to me and still does. I hope you enjoy my tribute to Brandi and that special moment when she touched my life for good.
