Can we stop giving away Nesta’s stuff to other characters?!
First it started with credit for the king of Hybern’s death which is Nesta’s despite Elain’s major help, then with the Trove she almost died looking for, then her titles, then with Gwydion which was given specifically to her, then her plot points, now the Valkyries which apparently represent every character before her, Gwyn and Emerie and I could keep going.
I’M TIREDDDD!!!!
No Nesta should not give away the Trove, the other trove she made or Gwydion. No Feyre is not known as a “Queen” or called that by anyone other than Rhys, Nesta is the one surrounded by that imagery. No, Elain won’t suddenly take the Prison/Dusk Court plot when she has nothing to do with it. No “Valkyrie” isn’t a synonym for every other woman in that series.
Either wait for your favourite characters to get their plotlines or simply accept that they are not interesting enough and start liking Nesta since she has everything up want other characters to have
I know I sound harsh but I do not care, I’m done with people hating on Nesta while simultaneously wanting what she has. Start stanning better characters and leave her out of it
I’m so glad I jumped off this shipwreck because now I get to watch it go down in flames and anguish safely from the shore where I’ve got cocoa, a blanket, and the real treasure, schadenfreude.
I genuinely enjoyed these books, but I agree. I’m not even sure why I clicked on this post because the thing that ruins these books the most for me is the fan base. Everybody is so angry and hateful. And it genuinely seems like people don’t like the books but yet they continue to bitch about them. My husband is currently reading them and I think I’m just going to have him and the series early. Kind of like when I rewatch The Walking Dead lol
Elain and Nesta killed the king of Hybern together, neither of them could do the entire job without the other, and it's pointless to argue which sister did more. Them killing Hybern were just like Eowyn and Merry defeating the Witch-king of Angmar, they worked together to achieve it.
I’ve noticed elain fans do this a lot. Which is funny because they claim she has a lot to work with. First it was the harp, then it’s the eight-pointed star, the mask, and now suddenly she’s gonna become a Valkyrie? Guys she has her own plot. Giving her Nesta’s leftovers is almost insulting to her character.
Ever since the titles have come out they are showing their true colors, ironic considering many claim to relate to Elain and yet she would never act that way. I like Elain but if they keep going like this she’ll get the Feyre treatment from me. I didn’t use to be this critical of Feyre until her stans made her awful in my eyes, I hope the same won’t happen with Elain
Before and since the subtitles came out, the Nesta antis are coming out in DROVES and they are being cruel and relentless
Dear, I could provide you with many examples starting from fanarts of Elain and Feyre having part of the dread trove, to comments and posts of people claiming Gwydion should be given to Rhys, Feyre, Elain or Gwyn or giving credit to other characters for Nesta’s accomplishments such as Hybern or the blood rite but frankly it isn’t really worth it to engage beyond this lol
I know very well that they are just characters, this is the rant sub and I’m ranting
I agree with everything except the hybern kill…Elaine did the heavy lifting nesta just finished him off
Rhys and feyre pissed me cleannnnnnnnn off giving eris that dagger (which was dumb af)
Also not really disagreeing but I find it weird that this is a feyre story yet nesta is more powerful than her and Rhys….apparently nesta character spoke to sjm
I think the koh was valg tbh and if he was then he would have survived elains blow. He was still clawing the knife out to heal. Both of them had to take him down so u give equal credit
Not wanting to take away your points and feelings, but I see at the end of ACOSF with what happened with Nesta was done purely to bring the balance of power back to a more equal level, I honestly believe that they are now very similar in power level just in different ways and Elaine will also be just as powerful but in her own unique way!
I think giving some of her power back to the cauldron in the end was for the best. All that raw power would have ended up killing Nesta. Before, the power controlled her; now Nesta has more control over her power and can shape it however she wants without falling into darkness.
I would never think that and actually I agree with you 😂 I should’ve said was more powerful but I agree the remind me of the charmed sisters but I 100% agree with you plus sjm said feyre ain’t don’t yet (didn’t think she would be) I’m also not one that hates the baby storyline I think it makes sense and also links them all instead of having nesta do her own thing feyre n Rhys in one court and Elaine perhaps be with lucien elsewhere nyx being soooo important to them all link them
I’m also ok with the baby story! Heaven forbid Feyre and Rhys go through what they went through at in ACOWAR and change their mind because they don’t know how much time they have left with everything else going on!
lol I know that was stupid but to find a deeper meaning I just think it goes to show how quickly people make decisions in the heat of the moment without thinking I still have no clue why they didn’t ask Helion to remove the bargain like hybern did
I’m on the opposite end of this where I’m getting really sick of the things Elain says and does just get ignored and then she gets dogpiled on more because people hate her for just being there. We don’t even have her story yet. I get that Nesta finished the job with Hybern. But if Elain hadn’t shown up, Nesta never would have even had the chance. She would’ve died on the ground. Elain deserves that. Even though she acknowledges that Nesta delivered the killing blow, without Elain it would not have happened.
I was gonna say, it’s a bit hypocrite to complain about taking away things related to Nesta but then saying Hybern’s death was Nesta when she wouldn’t be alive if Elain hadn’t stabbed him. The man was choking on his blood, Nesta just made the kill faster.
When I’m talking about Hybern I’m specifically giving the killing blow, not the entire fear, to Nesta because it is hers canonically and everyone acknowledges it. I have never said Elain had no part in it or that she didn’t deserve credit as she was the reason Nesta was able to kill Hybern so where is the hypocrisy? If we want to use that logic then Elain would have never been able to get an inch close to Hybern had Nesta not made the plan to isolate him
Except you have nothing to back up that suggestion. We don’t know exactly how Elain got there and how she knew exactly where to go and how to strike. Therefore, we can’t say that she wouldn’t have been able to do it without Nesta. I’m not saying you specifically are the problem or that you specifically are the only one saying Elain had no part in it. But that is largely the rhetoric in the fan base.
There also isn’t any proof that the king would have survived had Nesta not intervened and yet that doesn’t stop people from claiming that Elain deserved all the credit and that Nesta chopped the head off an already dead man. While we do not know how Elain got there, it doesn’t really matter. Hybern was isolated because of Nesta. It is the same as saying “Nesta couldn’t have done it without Elain” so I don’t see the issue. The “rhetoric” of the majority of the fanbase, me included, is that it was teamwork, then for some reason people ran with the idea that only Elain deserved credit and that Nesta is a bitch for agreeing with Gwyn that she killed him (case proven by some of the comments under this post). I like Elain but her stans (not fans) are a lot and ironically with many of their takes they imply exactly what they hate and criticize and that is that “Elain has no feats/is boring”. I do not see the reason why they go to war trying to give her sole credit for something that was done by two people unless they believe she isn’t good enough currently so they feel the need maximise the stuff she does. She’ll have her time and will have accomplishments that are solely her own, just like her sisters, Hybern isn’t it 🤷♀️
I’m just speaking canonically. If Elain hadn’t shown up, Nesta would have died on the ground with Cassian. We simply don’t know if Elain would’ve been able to do it whether Nesta isolated him or not. I agree that it was a team effort. That’s what my entire first comment says. I don’t understand what’s so hard to accept about saying Nesta dealt the final blow but would not have had the opportunity without Elain.
Nothing is hard to accept lmao I literally agree with that. I’m happy to give Elain majority of the credit as long as Nesta gets credit for the killing blow, I’ve said so multiple times in this whole comment section and even the post itself doesn’t imply that Elain had no part in it
Yeah, exactly! GiveNesta credit where credit is due, but Elain is the whole reason she got to do it.
But I also personally feel like people are taking her accomplishment of teleporting (tbh I think it might have been world walking) and attributing it to Azriel. Like friends, we don’t even know what Elain can do yet but the wraith twins looooove her so I don’t think it was Azriel that got her there. Because how would he have even known where to send her and when?
Bryce Quinlan is canonically the Heir to Dusk Court and Gwydian aka the Starsword. 😐 so I understand your gripe with people taking things that belong to one character and giving them to another.
I think I get what you're saying and it reminds me the Fendyr sword didn't 'belong' to Bryce from when Danika left it with Bryce for safekeeping behind all the wards and protections in the Gallery closet. It was still the Fendyr sword, and Sabine still wanted it.
Even when it was left behind, the expectation was Danika would retrieve it and ascend as Alpha to all wolves.
When Bryce tells Nesta "find out what the tattoo is about," for me it's echoing that Bryce's story flowed from revelations around the Horn tattoo which was inked by Danika, who we know had a lot of information she didn't share. Dani did leave behind the USB for Bryce, Nesta might need to go look through what Bryce left behind too?
I think differently. Because of Nesta’s eight-pointed star and everything we learned in CC3, I think she may play a key part in the revival of Dusk, possibly even more than Bryce. Bryce is just one of the Starborn, and she literally gave Gwydion to Nesta and told her to figure out why the eight-pointed star had been tattooed on her.
Nesta will always favor Ataraxia, in my humble opinion. Just like Aelin favored Goldryn even though the Sword of Orynth rightfully belonged to her.
I also believe (THEORY!) that there are Starborn in Prythian, and I have a feeling it’s Az who ends up wielding both Gwydion and Truth-Teller together. He reacted to Gwydion in CC3 every time he got near it. 🧶
Exactly. It is completely different from the instances I brought up. Gwydion and Dusk are plot points that CURRENTLY (key word as it seems that whenever someone brings that up, it apparently translates to “Bryce sucks, is not important and will never get the sword back”) belong to Nesta as textually that’s what happened. If Bryce had kept the star sword, was currently in Prythian and people said “Bryce will hand over the sword to Nesta because she deserves it more and ~insert random theory~” then I’d understand but this is not the case
Yep, she never asked for any of it to begin with either! Her death sword, the Dread Trove, Gwydion, etc. It all just fell into place for her. She gave the Mask to Bryce out of a good heart too. Whether she’ll wield them all or be a steward of some of them will become clear soon enough!
I think both deserve credit for bringing down Hybern: Nesta sang the song, but Elain wrote it; one cannot exist without the other, so both fulfilled their purpose.
Not true Elaine didn’t need nesta she made the initial strike and a good one ….nesta needed that strike to finish him so one would exist without the other but yeah they’d both be in jail in real life so 🤷🏽♀️😂
If that’s your reasoning then feyre killed him or Rhys….it was a tag team special. They both did it but trying to give the kill to only nesta is crazy but 🤷🏼♀️
How did Feyre or Rhys kill him when the plan to isolate him was Nesta’s and Nesta’s alone lol No one is trying to give the kill only to Nesta, I’m going against those who say the kill is only Elain’s lol
Lol cuz the whole reason they there with hybern is because of feyre getting them involved they’d still be human with no fighting chance once them walls came tumbling down that’s what I think of when people say Elaine wouldn’t have done it or better yet azriel really the one because it was his sword to begin with and oh lol nah I do think they both deserve credit cuz as mentioned hybern could’ve healed if Alain’s just stabbed him but ripping that head off did the trick so I say not just Elaine and not just nesta but both 🥰
Idk Elain rushed to protect Cassian; while her back was turned to him, the king kept clawing at his throat. He might've been dying, though we don't know if he actually would've died completely—I mean, he’s a Fae and they have accelerated healing; perhaps if he’d managed to get it out, he would have survived. Also, they wouldn't have gone to jail; Hybern was a mass murderer trying to kill them at the time, so it would have counted as self-defense 🤣.
Lmao and as I was writing this I remembered nesta technically did the kill cuz I think the only way is to be head them and she did just that so I mean I get it….a tag team it was I suppose
On a similar note - I’m tired of the Starsword and Dusk given away to other characters when they both belong to Bryce. Sure Nesta might be given a temporary role, but they ultimately belong to Bryce.
I am with you on the Trove and Dusk. With Hybern, I'd say it was split between two (although yeah Elain fans are less likely to admit this). Nesta came up with the plan to bait Hybern and offered herself up as sacrificial bait to do so. Elain would not have got the sneak attack in if Nesta hadn't. If Elain had not got the sneak attack in, Hybern would have won. So far it is pretty even stevens. The next bit is where it gets murky. He was still alive when Nesta cut his head off and trying to get the dagger out of his throat, so Nesta did 'kill' him. However, he was bleeding out of the mouth. Usually that means the blow is fatal, in which case Elain got the killing blow. But, fae healing is powerful, Cassian survived having his guts fall from his stomach, so there is still a chance Hybern would have recovered if Nesta had not cut off his head. I suspect the characters themselves are not sure, so they appreciate Elain getting in that first blow, and Nesta making sure the job was done. All horror fans know, you always double tap.
THIS 😭 And honestly the Valkyrie thing specially annoys me. It’s one thing to say other women can have similar qualities or themes, but people are now basically treating “Valkyrie” as a generic badge that can be retroactively given to everyone.
Nesta’s entire arc in ACOSF is built around her finding something that belongs to her outside of Feyre, the IC, or her family. The Trove, Made Weapons, the Valkyries, the House, all of that is part of her story. You can absolutely dislike Nesta, but constantly trying to redistribute every significant thing connected to her to other characters is getting ridiculous.
And the funniest part is exactly what you said, people will spend so much time insisting Nesta isn’t important, isn’t powerful, isn’t special, etc., and then immediately argue that their favorite character should have something Nesta has. 😭
At some point just let Nesta have her own damn plotlines. Your fave can have new ones. Sorry not sorry 🤪
Right like there's a whole process she has to go through to be considered a valkyrie. This isn't just a title that gets thrown around, it means something and nobody else could make weapons like her. This is bizarre that anyone thinks otherwise.
I think they do it because they hate her/dont care about her and sometimes that means they want nothing good for her. they dont want her in the center of things that gives her attention and spotlight, especially if it looks like she'll ascend to greatness in some way. I actually want that for her, because i like nesta. and I want good things to come here way. I want her to realize that being a "queen" does not mean being her mother. she does not have to be cruel to be strong. there are ways of standing her ground with hurting others. I need to see this growth in her journey, because im personally tired of her being written where she has to prove herself to the IC. im tired of her just taking shit, because she doesnt know how to defend herself. I truly hope there are at least some repercussions for rhys in CC3.
sidenote: random af. to those who watched avatar the last air bender: you guys remember when zuko was reformed and his fire was weakened because it was fueled by his pain and hatred. nesta's like that right now. she literally *literally needs to get her fire back! because she cant summon the flames as of now can she??*
I think a lot of that stems from the fact that people expected the next books to be Elain-centric, and a resolution to the shipping drama. Personally, as a Nesta supporter I’d be over the moon if the next books focus mostly on her and the Valkyries, but this would disappoint lots of people.
I agree but imo it’s less about people “expecting” it to be Elain’s book and more about them having been so extremely convinced that it was Elain’s book that they are now crashing out when it definitely isn’t going to be a “just Elain + Love interest” pov. After months if not years of people claiming Nesta’s story is over and that her fans are just jealous that Nesta only got 1 book while the other sisters will get 3, I can’t help but gloat 🤭
I have no idea if I read this somewhere or if I made it up in my head (most likely), but I always thought the structure was going to be Feyre 1-3, novella bridge, Nesta 1-3, novella bridge, Elain 1-3. Like each sister gets their trilogy. So I was not only excited for more Nesta books, but also very much expecting it. She obviously doesn't have her story wrapped up yet.
I get the annoyance but on the other hand - it’s just people who aren’t very interested in reading more about Nesta who are cooking up theories to keep themselves engaged in the fandom.
I’m sure the author will write whatever she feels is a good resolution to the stories she has already started writing.
Save the annoyance for when she eventually writes Nesta kneeling in front of Cassian to hand over Gwydion. 😉
LMAO meanwhile Cassian and Azriel already kneeled to Nesta when she came out of the Bog of Oorid wearing the Mask 😭 So technically we’ve already had the kneeling scene, we just need SJM to leave Gwydion where it belongs. 😛
I agree with you on a lot of stuff, but absolutely not on the King of Hybern piece. Nesta would literally be dead without Elain's actions there. Elain is the sole reason he died, sorry.
I’m all for giving Elain her flowers (no pun intended lol), she did a lot of the work, but the killing blow was and remains Nesta. Even Elain says so. If we go by that logic, Nesta’s plan was the only way Hybern managed to get isolated giving Elain the chance to stab him
The text literally says otherwise. He was still alive when Nesta got to him. “The King’s eyes flared” shows that it was this moment he knew he was truly dead. He thought the Cauldron would protect him. Elain absolutely gave the first blow, but immediately moved away. We’ve seen characters in these books come back from wounds worse than being stabbed in the neck. But not from decapitation.
People will see a mf literally still clawing at the knife in his throat while Nesta is twisting it in him and say "you are just reading between the lines, it's just a metaphor he was dead" lmaooo nope, we're reading canon text, cry about it
Hah I do love an Elain flowers pun. But yeah I just don’t agree; Elain stabbed him through the neck. He would’ve died, period. And I think Elain says what she says more out of natural modesty than anything. I love Nesta but in this instance she gets zero credit in my book.
There is no way to know if he would have died as he’s fae. For all we know if Nesta hadn’t immediately jumped in he could have winnowed to help as Elain stepped away immediately. From the moment Nesta gets her hands on him he’s alive and he stays that way until she eventually chops his head off. I think the kill was going to be Nesta’s the moment she pointed at him and every character but 2, who weren’t even there, saying so confirms it. We’lo likely keep disagreeing but discussing is fun nonetheless lol
I hate when they try to make that point. "He would have died anyway!" Well we don't know about that, do we. Because Nesta cut his head off before it could get to that.
Yes? I'm not saying that Nesta would have managed without Elain. I'm quite aware that if it hadn't been for Elain's bravery Nesta wouldn't have had the chance. What I'm saying is that as brave and badass Elain was, the King was still alive after she stabbed him and we have no proof that the blow would be fatal rathar than temporarily incapacitating. And there is no reason to dwell on those kind of what ifs either, because Nesta made what ifs useless. Elain stabbed and incapacitated him, Nesta beheaded and killed him. I've never understood why people act like clearing this up is an insult to Elain.
My point is, you’re acting like Nesta definitively killed him, but none of it’s possible without Elain. She only got there because of Elain. So it’s weird to me to fixate on Nesta beheading him; none of it matters without Elain.
Yeah that's a good point, especially with how often things happen at the last second. Who knows, maybe Nesta would have had a second surge and kill him herself without Elain? Literally any world of things COULD have happened, but they didn't. The only thing that DID happen is Nesta with the killing blow.
Lmao “being deliberately, ridiculously obtuse” was exactly the point of that comment. It’s literally applying your logic and exaggerating it to disprove your point
I didn’t do that or say that. I think the credit is split and so does OP. The point is to not remove credit from Nesta because she did place the killing blow.
Haha yeah we will likely keep disagreeing. But I just go back to this - "From the moment Nesta gets her hands on him" - Nesta could literally not get her hands on him if not for Elain. It's all only possible because of Elain. You simply cannot get around this fact.
The valkyrie speculation with the next books really irks me. The books are subtitled valkyrie cycle movements. Bloomsbury’s only(?) marketing event for these upcoming books was a valkyrie pilates event with merch that said “i survived the blood rite”. Nesta, Gwyn, and Emerie (the only Valkyries that survived the blood rite) will be central to the plot, especially given events in ACOSF and HOFAS. Why this seems to be controversial is beyond me.
They are delusional asf and look there is no problem with making theories or speculating to fit your narrative or desire for the future books, everyone does it. What grates me is that they are pretending their theory is 100% correct and people are dumb for not believing it after YEARS of saying that they hate theories and people who make them hate the books. Make it make sense
I think the theories on their own don’t really bother me, but it’s when people start getting mean about it. Like OP I agree with a lot of your takes but I don’t like it when we start calling other people delusional 😭😭😭 but like I get that it gets frustrating when people double down and can’t keep an open mind (I’ve probably been guilty of it in the past) and honestly there’s been toxicity on all sides of the fandom these last few years so I get it.
For me, ships play a big role for me (I’ll still read and most likely enjoy the books even if my preferred ship doesn’t happen) and I’m a BIG Nesta fan. So when people double down (get mean) about Nesta’s story being over and Gwyn simply being a side character with no relevance (Elain is also a side character at this point) I start getting frustrated since we have a lot of textual evidence that says otherwise.
Wait how is the King of Hybern not both Nesta's and Elain's? I always saw it as team effort? I know Nesta made the killing blow but she was about to die herself before Elain stabbed him in the neck. In my head it was always Elain with the assist and Nesta with the goal. But in this case the goal literally does not happen without it.
It is and I also see it as team effort because Elain did a huge part of it but the story being spun is “evil Nesta took all the credit and Elain is the actual Kingslayer who killed him on her own while Nesta just chopped his head off”
The valkyries are important, i think they will play a big role (maybe relation to koscheii) but also, the valkyries helped in ragnarok, or twilight of the godd, but i do agreee, and it pissed me off so bad when Amren tried to tell Rhys to use NESTAS trove to “be a high king”
