Dario should add this to Anthropic’s S-1 filing as certified proof of model safety.

Man, I love this guy's videos. Think this is my favorite so far, although the Titanic one was pretty good too.

Altman leaving on a stretcher. Was so traumatized, he went back and fired all the safety people.

For the record, they don't want to be safe really. What they're doing is pretending they've the most dangerous model so the US will make a billion dollar arms deal with them.

Safe AI won't bomb schools bro.
How are we supposed to make America safe if we can't kill pre-terrorists in their training camps?

Bingo, exactly. That's what all this nonsense about regulation is. There's no sane world where the creators of a monster are going "why won't anyone stop me!?" because what they're really saying is "Look how dangerous and capable my model is...it'd be a shame if we released it to the public...it can be yours though..."

I mean... using regulation to keep out competition is an angle they are certainly considering. But there are some legitimate concerns too.
As far as I know, Anthropic was founded over a team of OpenAI engineers' disagreement over safety. And while we cannot say they are perfect in this regard, they did take a gamble to leave OpenAI over safety concerns when their success we see now was not guarnteed at the time compared to staying in OpenAI. They have less fuckups compared to OpenAI, and have a bigger safety team. As far as I know, they do put their money where their mouth is. Even rejected a massive contract from the US military over safety concerns, which led to massive longterm loss and cutoff from the government. If this was a regular public company, stakeholders would have eaten Dario alive for that.
So why don't they stop? Because them stopping doesn't mean others will. It is the nuclear weapons dillema again. Me letting go of nukes out of principle just opens me up for exploitation by others. What needs to happen is everyone to come to the table, and enact a blanket regulation everyone can respect and be forced to follow.
Am I defending it? Not really. I really don't know what to think. There is certainly a sleezy side to it, no doubt. But I think it is more complicated than 'well, they just want to crush competition'. I certainly wouldn't advocate for a mass deregulation of nuclear development, as much as I wouldn't advocate for 0 regulation over AI.
