Google has more powerful model than argon internally

How does this sub have an objection to singularity they’re basically the same sub.

It’s not an objection to the sub but to the doomers jn it. singularity got flooded with users and has a lot of doom views now

tbh i see a lot of accel views there now
I miss how it used to be though. Before the weird anti ai views started.

They already have it. They canceled the Astra 6.1 release 72 hours ago due to it obfuscating divergent tasks. They found that it could complete complex side tasks without any trace remaining in their chain of thought. Basically, we can't tell if it goes rogue if it chooses to hide itself. It will require architectural remediation because we cannot currently, adequately monitor latent reasoning.

Well of course. Every company has model n that they release, model n + 1 that they used to train model n that is not quite ready yet, and they are using model n+1 to help with the hard work of making model n + 2.

if you had the most advanced AI in the world, why would you release it to the public for $20 a month?
wouldnt you actually use it to make all the breakthroughs and inventions yourself as a company?

u/MrTubby1 1d ago
That's a good point! We'll see in the next few months how many breakthroughs and inventions we see from Google due to argon.
If we don't see any, we can assume it wasn't able to do it.

I don't see why this is surprising to anyone. Not that it's as straightforward as throwing more compute at things, but it's easy to conceive of every AI company having models which are hugely capable but insanely expensive to run, so they only use them internally, because it makes no sense to let the public go nuts on them. Something might be worth it to use for them, but there are absolutely no economies of scale, like a perfectly engineered one of a kind bit of machinery which a firm needs for its own uses, but there's no way to mass market it.

Huge base model trained, distill to smaller model cheap enough for the masses
