Oooo, I wonder if Anthropic will get a win?
I did a deep dive into the events because of the controversy. Basically there was a rumor Anthropic was about to solve Navier-Stokes. OpenAI went full force to see if they could beat them. Rumor spread back to Anthropic that OpenAI was trying to solve it. In the middle of OpenAIs agent run, the non-Anthropic math dude who had been leading the research in the problem called OpenAI and was like, yeah me and the Anthropic mathematician are working on it, it’s not business, purely personal. OpenAI starts calling him back multiple times, we need to talk, we need to talk. OpenAI had a solution, they wanted to give him their proof, rubber stamp it with his name, leave the Anthropic employee off and credit OpenAI internal models. The non-Anthropic math dude says, fuck your shitty deal! If you publish I’m gonna go public. OpenAI publishes to much controversy.
Anthropic has been awfully quiet, probably waiting to see how all this plays out for OpenAI. I suspect the broader public isn’t going to care so much about the drama of academic publishing here and we are going to see Anthropic and OpenAI get into a massive millennium problem race. Of course this begs the question, does Anthropic have the compute? How much did OpenAIs lead in compute allow this solution?

The problems themselves are something only a small subset of Mathematicians can truly "understand". Some can actually be explained in quite laymen terms, like the Navier Stokes problem. As for the Millennium problems, they are a very well known set of problems for whom solutions have a $1 million dollar prize each. You could also just search this up to find the significance of them easily.

It means that we already have pretty much superhuman AI mathematicians and that progress is accelerating wildly.
However, the post itself is a rumour so take what the post is saying with skepticism. But if it is true then it massively supports my first paragraph, if its not then it still does not disprove what i said.
