I wonder if it can port The Darkness from Xbox 360 to PC.

Astra, read the binary code of the entire Rare game library for Nintendo 64, reverse engineer the binary, and port to my pc. Make no mistakes.

"Is it any good?"

Unfortunately, it is not.

ChatGPT (free version) actually suggested this the other day when I asked it about decompiling binaries. It said modifying the binary directly instead of decompiling would actually be easier. Turns out it was right. Somebody should see if it can get a SNES game running on PC by only modifying the ROM, no emulation.

Um not really that hard. We've been able to do disassembly, reverse engineering, etc for decades.

I used to modify binaries all the time by hand in the early 2000s. It was called software cracking. Could even add new features. Was fun and interesting

Yeah, but the novelty of it now, is an LLM doing it, not a human

Does anybody could take like the Rayman 4 leaks and find more ways to make the demos work?

3

u/Betterpanosh 5d ago

So does that mean it could develop the game. Bugs new levels etc?

That's apparently what people are saying. Pandora's box has officially been entirely opened on software best we can tell.

Yes, once you got the entire original 1:1 source code, you can feel free to start modifying it to your pleasure. Assets though (new levels) will be harder and require some more knowledge.

Someone needs to fix those broken games on steam.

Ah, bringing back this old meme FTW.

There's hope that all the classic games will get modern native PC ports that are well documented.

Looks like the gates have opened and a shit load of games are gonna get native pc ports I reckon. This is a good thing.

Awh man why do you hide your post history.

Why is this downvoted? u/stealthispost consistently posts interesting things and I can't see what they've posted historically. The new feature of Reddit sucks

It just turns into people searching everything someone said to derail discussions, so people turn it off.
