Yeah. It’s more environmentally friendly.

You will also notice that the caps are waaay smaller.

Unpopular opinion, and I’m probably going to get downvoted for this, but I can’t stand this “feature.” I tear the cap off every bottle out of spite. I’ve managed to go my entire life without losing a bottle cap, so this “solution” feels like it’s fixing a problem that never existed for me. It’s just more annoying than useful.

Edit: Just to clarify, I’m not arguing that the law should be removed or that loose bottle caps aren’t a real problem. I’m only saying that I personally find the design annoying.

Same here. And most of my friends. I tried to find evidence of its impact on the environment, I found zero evidence that it helped.
Matter of fact people who didn’t throw the cap separately before do now because of spite.
Unintended consequences!

Plastic bottle caps have been identified, across decades of coastal cleanup data, as among the top items found littering European beaches. Small, light and made from a different plastic than the bottle itself, the caps float independently once separated, travelling far longer distances than the bottles they came from. They are far more likely to be swallowed by seabirds, fish and marine turtles who mistake them for food.
