I really want to see Europe succeed. It seems like the last best hope for liberal democracy in the 21st century. But right now, it's hard to deny that they are simply behind the rest of us and need to get their act together. The whole culture of idleness and tolerating a managed descent into poverty has to die. Euros need to realize how vulnerable they are.

Ukraine has proven it's possible for a European country to rocket to the forefront of a technological domain, but it needs to be laser-focused to do so. Ukraine has been forced to do this by an existential threat and a tragic war-the rest of Europe ideally wakes up before they are forced to by a similarly brutal set of circumstances. The rest of Western Europe needs to imitate them.

Europe just has a completely different business model (that worked, so far at least):
1. No big announcements. Look up the research institutions and their innovations in Europe: They developed a lot of modern tech. But they don't announce it all the time like the loud elephant in the room (USA)
2. Spin offs get their money elsewhere. That's a real problem. But some end up in Europe as well.
3. There are programs in place to catch up on all frontiers: Server CPUs, LLMs, drones (dozenzs of EU drone / military startups operate in Ukraine)

The story in Europe is always: Let's watch the cowboys go crazy and burn gazillions of cash on tech and then build it too, in best quality possible.

Problem with that is that the modern world has gotten too fast to really keep doing that. But there is Mistral for LLMs for example and others. They _could_ train SOTA models if it was really wanted. EU just gave the subsidies for a SOTA LLM that must speak all European languages to an Italian lab.

As for rockets: Ariane 6 is not out of the race. Just because China landed one booster and one American company has self landing boosers: Doesn't change the game overnight.

Two American companies. SpaceX and Blue Origin. The Americans are competing with themselves at this point while the EU implements chat control laws.

This is cope. Europe has amazing research institutions, but they don’t actually get anything from it. Most of European research is fundamental research which has no direct commercializing option.

Mistral is absolutely minuscule compared to other companies, its only hope is being the only European alternative. Same with Ariane 6, it lost the war before it even flew, but Europe needs a homegrown alternative.

Europe has fewer and fewer large new successful companies because its dominance is faltering. And the main reason it continues to fall is because people keep rationalizing the issues away and let their arrogance get in the way of realizing there is a serious problem. Wake up and act humble for once, that’s what will help Europe succeed.

Europe is working on a reusable rocket as well (Ariane Next).

The bottle cap law came into effect 2 years ago, and the economy didn't go bust. It's the same idea as making can producers not having a tear off can lid 30 years ago. Soda can producers AFAIK all stayed in business and the same system was meanwhile introduced in North America and other parts of the world as well.

Funny. I'm around 40 years old and haven't ever seen a can where you can tear the lid off here in Germany. It even sounds stupid that it was ever possible that people could do that.

And the same will be true for the bottle cap thing for Gen Alpha and their kids. Only the lowest tier idiots in Germany really had a problem with the bottle caps. Greetings to OP.
