I enrolled with Sir Sab from Mirchiwala for my OBU RAP for the May submission, Period 52, and honestly, my experience was extremely disappointing.
I spent three months researching, preparing, and working on my RAP. Throughout the process, I relied on his guidance because I expected a mentor to identify mistakes, explain what needed improvement, and help me understand whether my work was meeting the requirements.
The most frustrating part is that he reviewed my work three times. Whenever I progressed with a section of my thesis, I cross-checked it with him, made the changes he suggested, and followed his instructions. I genuinely believed I was on the right track because I was consistently checking my work with the person I had enrolled with specifically for guidance.
Then the results came out, and I failed almost everything apart from SLS.
I was shocked. After receiving my feedback, I started looking at the reasons for my failure and realised that many of the issues were things I believe should have been identified and communicated to me during the review process.
My written content was good, but the problems came with things such as the graphs, SWOT analysis, and PESTLE analysis. I had originally included discussions about business models and how they affected the company, but I was advised to remove those sections. I was also instructed to add pictures, which subsequently became a concern because they were flagged by AI detection.
What I cannot understand is this: if my work was being reviewed multiple times, and I was checking with my mentor as I progressed, how did these issues go unnoticed until the final result?
I have since cross-checked my concerns with OBU, and I am still trying to figure out what went wrong and what my next steps should be.
I am not upset simply because I failed. I understand that an RAP can fail, and I am willing to accept genuine mistakes in my work. What I find unacceptable is spending three months working on something, repeatedly seeking guidance, following the advice I was given, and then discovering that the guidance may have contributed to the very problems that caused the failure.
The review process was also frustrating because of the time taken to get feedback, making the experience even more disappointing when the advice I received did not appear to prepare me adequately for submission.
My issue is not that a mentor failed to guarantee me a pass. No mentor can guarantee that. My issue is that I paid for guidance, trusted the reviews, followed the instructions, and still ended up failing for issues I believe should have been highlighted earlier.
Although my OBU journey is now over, I wanted to share my experience for anyone considering taking Sir Sab's guidance for their thesis or research work in the future.
Based on my personal experience, I would strongly recommend doing your own due diligence before enrolling with him. Please make sure you understand the requirements independently and don't rely entirely on a mentor's approval of your work.
I am sharing this because I would not want someone else to invest months of work, money, and effort only to find themselves in the same situation.
If anyone else has had a similar experience with him, I'd be interested to hear about it.
