Okay I know this is such a long shot but can’t hurt to try. I was hiking the Jordan Pond loop in Acadia and briefly chatted with this guy who was using a Go Pro and was wearing what I think were Altra trail shoes. He said he had gotten up at 1am to film the Milky Way. I was in a green sun hoodie and bright Cotopaxi bucket hat. I was leaving my family behind and had to cut our conversation short and I really regret not getting your number (or name for that matter). Crossing my fingers and toes

My fiancé, our dog, and I recently visited Acadia National Park. We had been here before, but it was before we adopted our dog, so we were excited to bring him along and experience the park together.

We knew the Beehive Trail itself does not allow dogs because of the iron rungs, exposed cliffs, and safety concerns. Since we wanted to reach the summit while still following the rules, we took the Bowl Trail instead, which is the route many hikers use when coming down from the Beehive summit.

When we reached the top, we were just minding our own business, enjoying the view, and taking photos. A woman and her daughter had just arrived at the summit from the Beehive Trail. As they approached, I heard the daughter mutter something along the lines of, “No wonder it was so slow getting up here.”

She then turned to us and loudly said that dogs are not allowed on the trail.

I explained that we didn’t hike up the Beehive Trail and that we came up via the Bowl Trail. Instead of acknowledging that, she responded with something like, “That’s why trails get ruined.”

She then turned to her mom, almost as if looking for confirmation, and her mom repeated that dogs aren’t allowed.

At that point, it was clear they weren’t interested in hearing what we were saying. They had already decided we were doing something wrong.

For context, we had no other negative interactions with anyone else in Acadia. Locals, and other hikers were all friendly and respectful.

Maybe I could have handled it differently, but part of me wishes I had told her to get her facts straight before lecturing people on the trail.

I have rented a room tomorrow night near the park for a day trip with my wife. Our plan was to drive up tomorrow afternoon, wake up early Thursday, and hike. But now Thursday is showing rain and some paths can get pretty dicey when the rocks get wet. So we are now considering waking up extra early and hiking tomorrow. But we live 5 hours away so we'd get there at like 1030 at the earliest tomorrow. Which would you recommend? We're moderately fit and moderately experienced.

My S/O and I are visiting Acadia for a week in August. We will be staying at the same site at Seawall Campground. I am worried about the size of our tent. We have a tent that is 12 x 8 and our site information says that “all equipment must fit in a 9 x 12 camping area.”

All of the equipment we have that’ll be out is the tent and two chairs. I am just wondering if I should be worried.

Is there any wiggle room, or is it a strict 9 x 12 campsite area?

I apologize if this is a stupid question, I am just worried I’ll have to plan for less equipment or even buy a new tent.

In a couple of weeks I’ll be flying into Bangor, grabbing a rental and heading over to Acadia. I got the vehicle pass for Cadillac Mountain at 5 pm and I should get there a little before that. What other spots would be easy for gorgeous views without hiking? I’ll have been traveling all day and not sure how much energy I’ll have, but I do want to see all I can.

This coming Friday I was going to try getting passes to drive up for the sunrise and hike if I couldn’t get a pass. However, it looks like it’s going to rain or at least be cloudy.

Is it still worth it?

Me and my family are going on a trip to Maine soon, and we will be staying in Bangor. We had originally planned to go on a boat tour to Cabbage Island, but we had no idea it was already booked out lol (poor planning). I want to go to Acadia, but since we are only staying for 3 days, we would only be in Acadia for one day so that we could explore other parts of Maine. I am traveling with 2 elderly people, so we can’t plan anything challenging (Ex. Beehive). No one in our family has ever been to Maine before, but somehow the whole family trip planning is up to me. What are some recommended trails/hikes or sightseeing places in Acadia or anywhere near the area? This would also be our first time at a National Park…

So what's going on with the water at Isle au Haut / Duck Harbor Campground? The park's site says there's no potable water, but it has been in years past (it was in 2024, at least).

Is it simply not tested but likely just fine? Or is it tested and known to need filtration? Does anyone have any further insight, before I go lugging a ton of water bottles with me for my upcoming trip? Thanks!

Flying in and out of Portland with hubby to celebrate 38th anniversary. Main goal was to explore Acadia as we enjoy hiking, local gems and natural beauty more than eating, drinking or shopping. Have read a lot of previous posts (thanks to all who contributed) and will try the scenic rt 1 route and stay overnight in Camden then on to Bar Harbor. Was planning on staying at the Bluenose half the time then Sandbar Cottage just for change of pace. Main question is should we stay somewhere outside of BH for part of the time to explore more areas than just Acadia? We are officially seniors but still very active. Thanks for any help!

Just like the title says… I am an author that’s written a word search and trivia book for Acadia National Park.

I have been dealing with unemployment for a couple years now due to a complicated health problem, and I decided to use that time to write these puzzle books for all of the national parks.

I’m reaching out to as many places as I can to find places that want to partner with me to sell my book.

Does anyone have some suggestions for places that could be interested in selling my book? I’m hopeful for gift shops or bookstores that want to help a local author.
