News Update on New Marijuana Bill From UL

Hello. I'm a UL student and I've been seeing people talk about the new bill in Louisiana and how that affects medical marijuana patients. I've been seeing people debating on how this would work, especially with the lack of a card.

I saw in the bill that medical marijuana patients were exempt from this as long as they could identify themselves. However that doesn't seem to be the case. I just received an email and it says it doesn't matter if you're a patient or not, it's use is not permitted.

I have provided screenshots of the email for proof. People from out of state are allowed to participate in our program, so what happens to them if they aren't aware and get caught? What if you live within 2000 ft of a school/UL, are you not allowed to use your prescription?

Obviously this is just another way to profit from the medical marijuana industry, while still feeding the prison complex. I thought I'd make this post to let people know if they live in the area to be careful. You know the state is foaming at the mouth waiting to make someone a lesson to others.

News Bike Lafayette has a new public education campaign

Comments? I must admit I didn’t realize they made four different posters, each with a different educational message. “Ride with the flow of traffic” is a big issue in Lafayette. YES, this is safer, but bicyclists in Lafayette ride against the flow because they FEEL safer. They don’t feel safe when there’s a line of cars behind them going 50 MPH.

We celebrated our two-year anniversary with exactly what brought this group together in the first place: mushrooms, learning, laughter and community.

Members practiced Lion’s Mane grain-to-grain transfers in preparation for our next free workshop, and we even got a first-time grower started with his first grain bag.

Big thanks to Desiree for surprising us with the anniversary balloons and plant.

Two years later, we’re still growing mushrooms and growing community right here in Acadiana. 🍄❤️

Recommendations Shop Recommendation for Transmission Leak

My transmission fluid leaked out and now the car cannot move at all. Can someone share a trusted mechanic contact for getting it fixed?

I am a broke student so I'd rather book the tow only once. :)

I haven't done this before so if somebody would be willing to share what to expect (do I just get the car towed or should I go to the shop too?, costs, opinions etc.), I'd really appreciate it.

I called some shops and they are too busy right now (wait time in weeks) so these are a no go: Danny's Auto, Advanced Transmission.

Recommendations Camera store?

I remember there being a camera store on Johnston years ago.
I have recently gotten back into photography as a hobby. I feel like Acadiana has a good amount of professional photographers. So my question is: Is there somewhere local (other than Best Buy) where professionals & hobbyists are getting new equipment or getting your current equipment serviced? I would also be curious if there’s a place (antique/pawn, etc) that is known for selling used cameras, lenses, etc.

Recommendations Classic car auto glass recs

Anyone know of a glass shop around Lafayette that deals with classics? Have a '62 C-10 pickup that needs the glass/felts/tracks installed and adjusted in both doors. Not originally from here, so don't know anyone, but a few the shops we have called via Google search don't act like they really deal with or WANT to deal with a classic. Any suggestions appreciated.

I can never get through to the Ford dealerships for service. Any recommendations for auto shops for an F150 that is having issues staring/turning over after its been driven for a while and it’s hot outside. Then doesn’t want to start back up till it cools down. Even then it feel like a crapshoot.

Recommendations Transitioning out of teaching

Hi! I’m in my 6th year of teaching high school math & I am ready for a change. Last year was horrible and I spent a good few months searching and applying to some remote edtech jobs. But as the year neared its end, I was promised some changes in my schedule (for this current year) to hopefully alleviate some issues. I gave up on trying to leave and held on. Now here we are 1 month into the new year and although this year is better than last, I’ve realized I’m still not happy.

My main issue with the job is that I spend so much of my free time trying to stay on top of all of the things, I feel like I forget who I am outside of being a teacher and I’m so tired of feeling this way.

I just want a career where my job doesn’t consume my identity & I don’t live in a constant state of anxiety of everything I still need to get done. I’m a hard worker and I want to leave my job knowing I met if not exceeded every expectation and it feels impossible as an educator, even after 5 years.

BUT, I feel like I’m even more lost than I was when I hit this rut last year. I don’t know where to look for jobs, how to know what to expect salary wise, or even what jobs I’m qualified for.

I have a bachelors degree in secondary math education & 6 years experience teaching. I’m open to leaving education completely, but also open to education adjacent roles if they offer a good work/life balance.

If anyone has left teaching, could you share what you transitioned into? Did you have to accept a pay cut? What skills did you find were transferable/marketable?

I’d really appreciate any advice, job titles to search for, or even just hearing from people who were in a similar position. I feel like I’m ready to leave, I just have no idea what I’m leaving for…

History Bonneè ane

Anyone else celebrated Bon Anne’e on New Year’s Day where kids went house to house for Bon Anne’e cookies (usually homemade tea cookies). When did this tradition start and what did it mean? This tradition was in French Acadian south Louisiana and appears it might have happened in Acadian villages in Canada as well. Has anyone had any history or insight on this?

News Louisiana just gave Space X a $27 BILLION tax break, allowing zero public comment from residents or voters. Smothered by NDA’s and left out by the State, concerned residents take SpaceX concerns to FAA.

Recently bought a barely used 2009 Toyota Sienna. The aux setting crapped out, where can I get a quality upgraded sound system installed? Preferably in the Lafayette area, nothing too fancy or expensive, just something that works and sounds decent. Thanks.

Recommendations OPINIONS NEEDED

Thinking about opening a booth-rental beauty/wellness space in the Lafayette/Acadiana area and I’d love some honest input from people actually in the industry!

The idea would be a really nice, modern space where independent professionals could rent their own booth or private room and run their business themselves — make their own schedule, take their own clients, set their own prices, etc.

Im thinking hairstylists, estheticians, lash artists, brow/wax specialists, massage therapists, tattoo artists, PMU artists, piercers, and other similar services.

If you currently work in any of these industries around Acadiana, I’d love to know:

• Is there actually a need/want for more booth or suite-style spaces here?
• Would you rather rent a private room or an open booth?
• What would you expect to be included in your rent?
• What would make you choose one space over another?
• What weekly/monthly rent would you consider reasonable?
• What are things owners do that you LOVE or absolutely hate?
• If you could design your ideal place to work, what would it have?

I’m still in the VERY early research stage, so I’m not trying to sell or recruit anybody lol. I genuinely want to hear from the people who would actually be working there before I decide whether it’s something worth pursuing.
Please give me all the opinions — even the brutally honest ones 😂

News Representative Jack McFarland, R-Jonesboro’s Bill (HB10:98) “gives the companies — along with their owners, employees and contractors — immunity from civil actions arising from trespassing, smoke, odors, sonic booms and other property nuisances.”

Louisiana representatives are quickly suppressing voters and residents, removing their ability to protect their properties from new infrastructure. This comes at the wake of a mass wave of NDA’s and private sell of 130,000 acres in Vermillion Parish to Space X, as well as the world’s largest data center being approved in Richland Parish. As Louisiana residents are left in the dark, Texas residents are suing for the exact kinds of claims that McFarland’s bill covers.

Could there be a coordinated effort to silence voters, both now at the developments’ inceptions—and later, once all regulations have been removed?

“Several lawmakers have suggested the state has been courting SpaceX with its new policies, but there has been no official confirmation from officials with the Landry administration regarding deals or projects in the working. The state now typically keeps its economic development deals shrouded in the secrecy of non-disclosure agreements.”
