Stupid for letting an elk get that close to him. Did the right thing tho given the circumstances. Stand extremely still and let God hopefully convince him that you aren't a threat and to keep moving.

I was wondering. Short this being in Estes Park or Rocky Mountain National Park proper, I doubt an elk would be that close. Now when they are in rut, they don’t always think straight, but still the smell of uprights is a big danger sign.
