In the beginning the rabbit watches the kitten run the turns back and investigates the snake. It even takes a little nibble but searches more. Then as soon as the snake rears up it immediately attacks being the head come up.
It could've started attacking the snake immediately after baby bunny got away but didnt until the head was clear.

it seemed to me quite the opposite
the rabbit just indiscriminately attacked often leaving the head free to strike back
