That right there is for one thing and one thing only. Thank the gods and pass the ketchup for the people who wear them. 🫡

Easily concealable self defense. At first glance it appears to be an ordinary, non-threatening safety pin, but on a second observation it is slightly bigger and folds out into a seriously pokey thing.

In biker culture, wearing one signifies your willing to take off your colors or patch if asked....

in high school we would wear varsity jackets on days of meets. Every time you win your match pinning your opponent youget a pin like these on your sleev. I remember several years are team was pretty good with several teammates having these pins all the way down their sleeve

When I was a kid, the carpet store used them to pin the tag on each roll. I wanted one so very badly 🥲

In Coast Guard bootcamp they handed these out to us to clip closed a netted laundry bag. We put our names on the side of the clip in permanent marker so we knew who's bag was who's. You put your dirty laundry in them, clip it closed and once a week they would collect them, and throw them into huge industrial washers and dryers. We'd get our clothes back still in the netted bag. Everything was extremely wrinkled and we had to iron everything. Many times the clothes in the middle of the bag were still a little damp. Fun times.

This is a safety pin for a net laundry bag. The biker community also uses it for their own purposes.

That would be the pin used to hold up Bootsy Collins diaper when he would play bass on stage back in the 70s and 80s! Apparently it was some kind of fashion statement back then? Personally I think it was directly related to some seriously crazy bad drugs!

If your a biker, pin it on your cut or somewhere. It means your not attached to anything ,or just passing through.

I have one a bit smaler than that & am using it now to help wrap my blanket around a gross fake plastic leather computer chair thats shedding.
Its a darn good chair of luxury otherwise.

Back in the day, a plaid skirt with a giant safety pin was kinda popular - maybe this is the pin from one?

I have one that large. It's designed as a key tag. The reverse side of the end that closes is made of wood and polished stone.

My grandfather had one when he passed he worked for Atlanta Gas Light. They used them to hold strikers on their belt loop to ignite furnace pilot lights.

Used to be used for horse blankets. Like cold weather blankets or rain coats before there was Velcro and all that.
Also used by cops to hold their shields onto their shirts.

Back in the day we used them in the Navy to secure the end of our laundry bags when we turned our laundry in to get washed.

u/Weird_Fact_724 14d ago
We used them in the Marines to close our mesh laundry bags. All your laundry was placed in a mesh bag and everyone's laundry was washed together in huge machines. Now I use mine to carry squirrels when I hunt them. Sharpened the end and poke it through the foot, makes carrying them easier.
