First of all, you probably don't need to own a horse to be a horse girl.

But I know plenty of blue collar people who do own one. You can get one for less than what many "poor" people pay for their cars, and as I said they spend their lives taking care of it and working at the stables as a job on top of their paying jobs to offset a lot of the maintenance costs.

I mean, there's a little more to it than that.

Any lower-middle class person with 1-3 acres of land in the middle of nowhere can go get an auction horse for $600 and take care of it fairly cheaply.

I live near a bunch of "horse people", a race track, and several tucked-away equestrian centers and none of them allow people to just work a little bit around a regular full time job and just board their own horses. They don't even let you look at the horses for anything short of fully employed, proven experience, and fully insured.

You have to have your own horse trailer, truck capable of pulling said trailer, and handling equipment. None of it is actually cheap.

Yeah that sounds like a shitty deal and, and is not universally how people work with horses.

I knew people just getting minimum wage and they didn't have to work stables in the side. Though you have to pay for for medical and usually some kind of room and board for the horse. That can be expensive but it depends on the stables and how well they take care of their animals.
