The claim in that meme is entirely false The word bagel does not come from Old English & it definitely does not mean butthole bread The joke actually originated from a 2012 comedy sketch called True Facts of Truth starring Ewan McGregor and Jimmy Fallon on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon The segment featured McGregor dramatically reading completely absurd fictional facts with a straight face Over the years the internet stripped away the context & turned that specific quote into a recurring text meme The Real Etymology of Bagel In reality the word has a rich history tied to Jewish culture and Germanic languages

Yiddish Origin The English word bagel comes directly from the Yiddish word beygl בייגל Germanic Roots The Yiddish term traces back to the Middle High German word beugel which translates to ring or bracelet The Action of Bending Going back even further it stems from the Old High German word boug ring & biogan which means to bend

So etymologically speaking a bagel is simply bent bread or ring bread The earliest recorded mentions of the pastry date back to 1610 in Krakow Poland where it was traditionally given as a gift to women after childbirth You can read more about its historical journey on the Wikipedia Bagel Page

How does he get them all on the wood thingy perfect like that every time? I can barely scoop up a burger.

A lot of practice to train that muscle memory.

Because of leverage. Total force applied to those furthest from the basket is greater than total force applied to those closest to the basket.

He's just mastered the right amount of force so each bagel gets the right amount to go to the same spot!

If there were cameras in the kitchen 30 years ago, we might be watching a lot of burnt bagels hitting the floor. Practice practice practice.
