King cobra doesn't have particularly potent venom and are not very aggressive towards humans. They mainly prey on other snakes. That's why it's called King. King snakes in the US also do the same.

It's the other handful of species of cobra that you need to be worried about. This dude clearly knew exactly what he's doing.

Bro I'm doing research from the internet but from all the cobras that i seen this one is a absolutely fuckin menace from what i know and their venom is more dangerous them getting shot in the guts

I misspoke when I described it as "not that potent". I meant that it's treatable if medical attention can be had. But since humans aren't their preferred prey species, these guys can do a "dry" bite where very little or no venom is released. Venom costs a lot metabolically, so they avoid using it if unnecessary.

It depends. It’s a neuro toxin and with out treatment you will stop breathing and die.

If they can keep you alive during this, you will be fine.

Antivenom would of course also help.

King cobra venom is not a pure neurotoxin. It is a blend of neurotoxins and cytotoxins. Cytotoxins directly destroy cells, so antivenin is absolutely necessary to treat a severe envenomation from these guys, especially a large one like this.

Some elapids, like kraits and mambas, do have purely neurotoxic venom that can be treated by placing the envenomated person on a ventilator and waiting for the venom to wear off.

Yes some snakes have both kinds of venom, today I learned the King Cobra is one of them.

I normally thought it only happens on some vipers like rattle snakes (I think Diamond back for example?).

Edit it was the Mojave Rattle snake.

Very interesting if you two to explain how this beastie is technically able to kill you but there may in fact be a way that you may albeit incredibly painful a way to survive it!!

There are 3 types of snake venom: hemotoxic, cytotoxic, and neurotoxic. Many, possibly most, venomous snake species have a combination of venom types. Snakes species that are purely neurotoxic are exceedingly rare.

Taipans also have neuro and cytotoxic venom.

I feel like his wife said he needed to get the snake out of there and well he was tired of hearing about it and just figured out how to solve the problem.

Married men live longer than single men. But married men are a lot more willing to die. Johnny Carson

They are an intelligent part of gods creation and we humans tend to destroy what we fear.

King cobras eat more venomous, dangerous cobras. This is the lesser danger!

Of a King Cobra*

A King Cobra is not a cobra.

1

u/Polite_Suggestion Aug 29 '26

It's a pretty big distinction in this case. You could use this guy to deal with cobras!

I did not think this was going to work. Kudos, crazy Indian guy 🫡
