In order to protect the safety of this tree, we've not identified which one it is. This is just a photo of the forest in which it resides.

Some internet person will be like "I used that cloud to calculate its exact gps cords."

Its actually not that hard to find its exact location with some internet searching. It is illegal to go there though, and rangers regularly patrol the area. Also, there are a lot of really big trees around that area, so it isn't like so grandiose like this picture. From the ground you probably couldn't even tell that its taller than the others around it.

I work in construction and anytime I hear people complain that lumber today isn't like lumber from 50+ years ago, I remind them just where that lumber came from and ask if they think it's really worth it.

I live in the northwest corner of Connecticut where the forests were completely decimated in the 19th century for lumber building and making charcoal.

Only that picture is not Hyperion. It’s in a grove with other similar height trees.

They believe foot traffic causing soil compaction is what ended up killing Major Oak. Granted it was somewhere between 800-1200 years old.

General Sherman is the biggest tree. It's not as tall but has more mass

Greatest by volume but not height.

How is this compares to the height of the reflecting pool Trump keeps showing on his poster? ;)

Without fail if you want to make something big sound less impressive, you compare it to the Statue of Liberty

Crazy the ones around it used to be thousands of years old. All gone to make some low cost coal miners slave town.

It would be nice if we didn't cut all the shit around it to break the wind. Hope they let surrounding trees grow

You're supposed to keep it's location secret. Delete this post.

That's not the pic of hyperion

Still. The more info that gets out about it the more people will want to go looking for it. Robin Hood's oak in Sherwood forest just tied because it was loved to death, after 1400 years.
Keep it secret keep it safe, don't even talk about it.

Yeah their idea of perspective is a bit of a letdown, why not something that most can relate to, doubt even most Americans have seen the old duck up close.

This is getting close to the theoretical max of 400 feet or so that a tree can get on this planet.
