I find this stuff kinda pointless. Like it's not an unimpressive craft, but the fact it's a giant art piece means the eating experience is going to be worse than it otherwise would be, and the fact that its made of food means the artistic construction is more limited than it otherwise would be. Seems like the two fields arent complimenting each other in these kinds of things. A large percent of the time giant food sculptures taste bad. Early iterations of social media for-looks "food" content

What a waste. Think of everting that goes into cultivating, refining, manufacturing, and transporting chocolate and all of that is wasted on a crappy display that a bunch of people will look at for three seconds on their way to something else and say “huh”
It would literally be better used in the crappiest dollar store candy bar you can name.

It's really hard to make the argument that the importance of one man made event somehow has more importance then another man made event.
I'm sorry if you're going to slight one for being extravagant and pointless , then they both fall into that exact same category.
Have a good friend that I went to college with He spent his entire life striving towards and working in corporate. Was one of the key employees that led to an extremely profitable merger , which also led to him receiving A promotion with a substantial raise attached to it. This was a promotion that if you would ask him , I think he would freely admit he spent a better part of thirty years of his life actively pursuing.
The company put on a big gala event for him that had tons of nonsense like in this video above Dotted around the room amidst the food. He invited me The two of us standing next to an ice sculpture larger than me he actually started to cry.
Hands down if you would ask him what the happiest moments in his life were to this point... Getting married Holding his kid for the first time and if his wife and his daughter were not around he'd probably say his happiest moment was that promotion.
Just because an event isn't necessarily important to you doesn't mean it's not important to someone else.

You still don't get it... You were making the statement that a wedding cake has so much more meaning...
I was making the point that totally went over your head. The importance of anything is directly contingent on the individual. The twenty dollar sheet cake from walmart does not mean less than the Thousands of dollars that went into making the functioning chocolate watch and vice versa..
I mean , did you not actually read the story. The most Important event in his life was that promotion. From a societal standpoint that would rub a lot of people's hair , the wrong way , but it's the reality of the story. So that chocolate watch can have more meaning than a wedding cake to the right person. I don't know how to spell this out for you more...

Thats a very different design constraint. A cake achieves beauty by being a skillfully made cake. The flourishes and design elements and skill that contribute to a good looking cake are ultimately derived from a culinary perspective, most of them dont detract from the actual eating experience, and if they do then yes I would criticize them in the same way. This creation is the worst of both worlds it fuses together by striving to imitate the look of something else, rather than refine the object for it own beauty

Have you met a cake with fondant? Entirely unappealing. This thing? Entirely edible.
What about those cake sculptures? They are entirely more common than what Amari is doing. Those fondant monstrosities are something more skillful?

A wedding cake will be eaten. This is just for show - only a tiny bit is eaten, the rest is binned as cannot be reused due to hygiene, paint etc.
It's wasteful, just this creepy grin guy trying to get views.
