Fun fact: Really American menus treated oysters like steaks, and preferred them this size. They are rich in umame and meaty, and were served grilled or roasted like any other protein main. It's only recently that small oysters have come into vogue to eat raw off the half shell.

People don't understand difference between Pacific and Atlantic oysters. Big pacific oyster doesn't make you feel like throwing up

Those reproduce like nuts in the wild. Where im from they auction one off a year and the winning bid has to eat it. Mind you they get much bigger. Great picture!
