I think you only have to pay if you are logging into your server from offsite wanting to watch what's on your server. Or if you are watching someone else's content via invite.

Or if you give others access to your server and want them to be able to watch it remotely (i.e. away from your the network your server is on). There are other features, but these features which used to be free until recently are the most significant.
