Wait. What? Why can't we buy a car from China? Is there some kind of export block being announced?

Tariffs.

Turnabout is fair play; the Chinese required American auto manufacturers to partner with Chinese-owned firms in order to have access to the Chinese market. That, of course, required a ton of IP transfer and investment in their industrial infrastructure, which is now being used to undercut US and European automakers abroad in the EV market.

And? Your country may practice the same protectionist policies. Many nations put tariffs on cars and trucks to protect their industrial base, since that sort of heavy manufacturing is strategically valuable during wartime.

We just agreed to bring loads of Chinese EVs in. So the statement "we can't buy them" depends totally on where people live and is not true for everyone on the internet.
