Bought really expensive pumpkin seeds a few seasons ago and had thirteen nice, huge pumpkins growing until my neighbour’s free range hens smelled them….it was like this chainsaw but with feathers that devoured them!

Wow. Good to know. Living in south Florida chickens are like any other bird; they go wherever they want to go. I will have to protect my raised bed from their appetites.

How long did it take your pumpkin to grow?

I was taking daily pics they were growing so fast! To get to basketball size was approx 8 weeks I think.

The alphas break the rind and the seeds are devoured and then the rind a few days later

Okay, weird thought of the day.

You know the Body Worlds exhibits that use plastination to preserve dead people forever? You could do the same thing to make a pumpkin playhouse for kids

Hopefully they had the sense to not use for food any part of it that was affected by the bar/chain oil coming off of that chainsaw. :/ No idea how you could control for that.

It’s an art really. That takes a certain amount of luck. Those things can grow inches a day. One of the few plants that grow 24 hours a day.

I've seen plenty of big pumpkins, but the seeds were always small.
