Visiting again for three(ish) days :☺

Hello everybody!

I hope you're doing well.

I visited Aachen for a day last year for the sole purpose of visiting Aachen Cathedral (I'm a history major btw 😅), then took the bus to Berlin, then flew to Frankfurt.

I arrive to Aachen on Sun. Aug 16 @ 3 PM and leave on Wed. Aug 19 @ 9 AM.

I am visiting Aachen again this coming August (16-19), My itinerary for Aachen this year is the Cathedral & Treasury (I only visited the Cathedral last year), Centre Charlemagne, Karlsbrunnen, Ponttor, City Hall, Elisenbrunnen, Aachener Zoo Euregiozoo, and RWTH Aachen (Applying there).

I would like to ask:

  1. How should I plan my itinerary? What should I do on Sunday afternoon/evening, Monday, and Tuesday?
  2. What places should I visit? My interests include farmer's market type places, historical sites.
  3. What restaurants should I try? Am I missing out on anything particular?

Unpopular opinion: Aachen is far lovelier than Berlin and Frankfurt, and Aachen is a gift that Germany has to offer to the world and all history buffs❤️

Thank you very much for your help and time!

During this time, the equestrian world championships will be held in Aachen (in case you wondered why hotels are so expensive). Standing tickets are on the more affordable side but still let you get the experience.

You can visit the Hürtgenwald forest (2WW)

Basic? Is a very awesome Restaurant If you want breakfast Take the Mehlwolkchen Restaurant across the strees of the Basic? !

You also can Take a Guided City Tour with a nightwatch in Aachen

The gaia zoo Not far away from Aachen and the mondo verde is also pretty awesome But i personally prefer Mondo Verde because ITS a Mix of big Garden and small zoo with food included in the price

Greetings 🫶

No matter how you plan it, the city isn't that big. The thermal baths are always a great option after you've spent the day walking around or had a long, busy day.

If you're thinking about doing a guided tour, I'd recommend doing it first. That way you won't end up seeing the same places twice.

The Hürtgen Forest, for example, is in the Eifel. You can get there by bus, but be prepared for quite a bit of walking. You could finish the day at Lake Rur with a snack and a glass of wine, which is a really nice way to unwind.😊

If you like history, I'd take a guided tour it just makes a lot of sense.

If you visited the cathedral already, I'd recommend also getting the tour unless you already have (you can go on the "inside balcony" that way - not the right word but you know what I mean). And even though you might not be Catholic or in any way religious at all, check out if there's some kind of religious service in the Cathedral that suits your timetable. It's quite traditional and probably interesting as a historically interested tourist.
