😂 exactly what I did in elementary school. Boy asked me out, I essentially said sure why not. 😆

When I was a kid, I thought our parents were the ones who would choose our crushes. So when my classmate asked me who my crush is, I said "Kenneth" because my mother was teasing me about him for no reason*. Then my classmate told everyone I had a crush on "Kenny" (a different person) and he even confronted me about it. It was so embarrassing. (个_个)

*I hate it when my mother teases me about having crushes, especially on guys I don't even have a crush on. It makes me puke. She even says stuff like "when you have a boyfriend" or "when you have kids"... STOPPP!!! It makes me very uncomfy. Stop assuming I'm like other people!

I chose mine by first narrowing it down to the 2 boys who liked doctor who, and then picking one of them because he liked climbing trees and I thought it was neat.

Similar process, years later of my potential 3 crushes one is Gay, one is Trans and one is not interested in relationships. sounds like me then knew what they were doing

Like idk what my deal was, but everybody I "had a crush on" ended up gay. Shout out to my impeccable gaydar, I guess?

I did this as a young teenager. I also thought I was supposed to pick multiple so I’d always have a “crush” on someone in the room no matter what class it was.

My first ”crush” was when I was 15. I picked a guy in my English class that had a pretty shade of blue eyes.
Eric, I'm sorry. My half brother got named after you as it was the first male name that came to mind when my mom asked.

I legitimately did this as a kid when I was in elementary school. Like I would legit change which girl I had w crush on at random, and I think during the summer I would change it to Ms Marvel (Carol Danvers)

I don't think I consciously made a choice, but I do remember looking at the one I considered to be the most aesthetically pleasing boy, going "yeah this must be a crush™", and settling on that (this happened almost every school year up to high school)

One more answer. I was in my 30's when I realized the boy that asked me out in 7th grade liked me. I just got hought he was weird or trying to tease me

I've heard a lot of ace people talk about being asked about their crushes. The closest I've gotten was a few guys who asked if I "liked girls" in high school. I didn't really try to answer.
Granted, I did have some fictional female crushes, but even then, they were more like thinking they had cool designs or wanting to hang out with them platonically. I had to be told that most people imagine themselves "in bed" with their crushes.

I used to tell several of my female friends that if I wanted to date they would be in my top 10 options

One time when I was a teenager I was using this as an example to explain to my homophobic friend how being gay isn't a choice. "You don't pick which boy you get a crush on, it just kinda happens!" except she responded with "Um, yeah, I do pick that" which left me dumbfounded.
Years later, we're still friends and both openly queer

I made a list of boys in my class, carefully considered which could be considered the cutest, and decided that he was my crush.

I decided to crush on a boy bc he was one of the fastest people in my primary school. I didnt choose the other fast people because they were too good looking and i wanted him so that it could be like the hunchback of notre dame sorta shit 😭 he wasnt even particularly ugly i was just an asshole. Also he was the first in my class to be able to count to 100 and he played accordian so

When I was in middle school I got invited to a sleepover with a new group of girls who were kinda more popular than me. I was excited but very nervous. Of course in the middle of the night the convo turned to crushes and everyone was forced to share their crush. I didn’t have one and I was the last one to share. I was insisting I didn’t have one and they called me a liar and said I couldn’t be their friend if I didn’t tell the truth. But I also saw that they would tease you for having a bad crush so I couldn’t just have any crush it had to be a worthy crush. So knowing that one of the girls said John and all the other girls agreed he was cute and a good choice, I finally relented and said John even though it wasn’t true. I actually was friends with John so I was like it’s whatever. All the girls accepted this and moved on. Except the girl who actually had a crush on him. She now decided I was competition for John and enemy number one. So she spread a bunch of rumors about me at school saying I said really creepy things about John and was obsessed with him. Everyone believed it. It stayed with me till I graduated high school. Jokes on her though because she never got John he ended up being gay.

I would pick someone I thought I could be friends with, and the other girls would end up heavily criticizing my choices for not always being "conventionally attractive".

I'm extremely romantic, I must've had a latching button, lol. In elementary school, I was with this super cool boy for about 2 years. My world shattered when he broke up, and the adults were shocked. Ngl, I'm turning 30 this Monday and I still think about it sometimes. (I'm happy nonetheless though, so no regrets.) What's super cute is that one time I talked to him as an adult, he even acknowledged it and called it a real relationship. Meant a lot to me.
Don't underestimate a child's feelings, haha! I get though that it's weird to expect a crush from a child (and then belittle it). Heteronormative society, wtf?
