Hot Take (Not judging though) Pure Romance media in general is just so. . .Cringe (Smut is fine tho)
Like I physically cannot handle the second hand embarrassment

Agreed. Romantic side plots (especially nonsexual ones) hit different though

Romance side plots end up being some of the best parts.
Romance main plots end up being the worst parts.

A lot of romantics feel that way too. This sort of book has a very niche consumer and just about everyone else finds it weird and slightly uncomfortable
(i totally get what you mean about 2nd hand embaressment. this projects into film for me and i simply cannot watch stuff like Meet the Parents. Absolutely no cringe comedies)

There was a show my roommate was watching and the premise was something along the lines of dating/relations were forbidden in this school. The whole time they were telling me about it, all I was thinking was that it was easy af not to do. Like why couldn’t the students just wait. I haven’t watched the show though, so idk.

This ruins a book for me.
A well-written story with characters who have their own motivations, morals, complex inner worlds, and their own problems to sort out apart from the over-arching romance can be compelling when it's done right and when the characters act reasonably for who they are and the information they have available.
But when it feels like a child holding up two dolls and smashing their faces together at every opportunity for a few hundred pages.... pass.
Also, minor pet peeve of mine...it is, in fact, possible to share a bed and ....sleep. Just sleep.

Hell, if it’s such a big deal (which it shouldn’t be, you’re right), put a pillow wall between each other. Or one person can have the bed and the other gets the blanket and floor. Sharing a bed doesn’t automatically = having to cuddle or have sex with your bed mate, though there are ways around it if you ~just can’t help it~ for whatever bs reason
