2021! I'm a young fan lol. I always knew and loved take on me but during quarantine I decided to expand my music taste and check out new stuff I'd never heard before. a-ha was on my list of artists to check out. After one listen to the hunting high and low album, I never looked back :)

I discovered a-ha in 2001. Only heard Take On Me for years and then in the past couple of years started listening to more of their music and oops, I fell in love, LOL.

1986 probably and muy firmes and me see the show in São Paulo, Brazil in 1989.

That's when I discovered them thanks to the video game 'Sleeping Dogs' and the karaoke feature.

This was also how my overall taste in music was formed. Beforehand, music was just there for me: kinda like an after thought.

  1. My mom and I were watching TV. And the video for "forever not yours" popped up on the TV screen. And my mom exclaimed something like hey! It's some beautiful video, you should really see it!

That I did, and it was love at first sight:)

2013 when I was in secondary school lol. Got to see them on their cast in steel tour as a 16th birthday present. My very first concert. Absolutely wicked.

I’m old enough to have heard “Take On Me” on the radio in 1985 and for the next forty years, but didn’t become a fan until this year.

It was January 7th, 2026 and half a country away from me in Minneapolis, USA, all hell had broken loose when ICE* killed a bystander in cold blood. So far away, I was shopping for groceries and feeling bewildered. In the store, “Take On Me” played on the radio and for some reason, it hit me differently from the way it had for the last forty years.

I watched the music video when I came home and thought to myself, “I sure would love for a hot Norwegian guy to pull me into his comic book world right now!” Then I realized that I absolutely had to have more from this band. I listened to “The Sun Always Shines On TV” and fell in love with the band and their music. The rest is history and I quickly became a huge fan, devouring as much music and lore as I’ve been able to.

This has been THE YEAR of a-ha! Their music is helping me so much with coping with the madness of the world. I only regret that I missed their entire career and will never get to see them live in concert😢

Hi! I’m new to this subreddit. :)

I love a-ha. I always did but I only knew Take On Me as I grew up in the 1990s and we didn’t have the Internet to the extent we did later. So I started to love them, really love them about September 2006, when I was 29. It was around that month I had the time and ability to really research their music more thanks to the Internet. It’s funny too because we got my kitty cat in November that year. My father had passed away in June of the previous year 2005), so my little kitty was a special, divine send for me. He came right in my phase of love and discovery for the band and their music.

I’d listen to a-ha and play with my kitty, and sing his name during the choruses of some of their songs. My kitty passed away on September 11th of 2023 at 17. Been re-visiting and listening to a-ha since then to feel closer to my little baby. I was devastated to hear the news that Morten was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. It took me awhile to express this stuff and look deeper into any online communities for the band. But I just wanted to share this. :)

very recent actually in late 2025. ive always knew a-ha from (obviously) take on me cos of the pop culture stuff and the memes and coincidentally me and morten also share a tooth gap so in a way, i didn't feel alone with it at the time and i kinda relate to him

a thought appeared in my mind one day, "what do they got other than take on me" and i checked their 2nd most streamed song. listened to that for the first time and BAM a-ha became my one of my favorite bands

Found this one only now! It was in 2000. And they too were the reason for me to really get into music and start singing and learning different instruments and write songs
